Evangelicals and Art: Gypsy

This weekend I thought I’d throw up some music from a classic Broadway musical. I won’t spend much time on it as I want to keep this short. Gypsy is about the life of Gypsy Rose Lee. The musical focuses on Gypsy’s mother and her efforts to get her involved and well known in show business. It came out on Broadway in 1959 and perhaps Ethel Merman’s most well known role. The music and lyrics was written by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondehim. Since 1959 it has had multiple revivals. So with that these are some of the featured songs from Gypsy.

Patti LuPone – Everything is Coming Up Roses

Patti LuPone – Some People

Angela Lansbury – Small World

Leigh Ann Larkin, and Laura Benanti – If Momma Was Married

You Gotta Have a Gimmick

And then there is this classic scene from the movie Airplane! 😛
