Reflecting on Christian Nationalism in Evangelical Christianity and Being Caught Flat Footed in its 2016 Resurgence

This post is a reflection on Christian nationalism from 1999 until 2018. How it evolved over the years before surging in 2016 and catching me flat footed. Christian nationalism is deeply divisive and causes unnecessary conflict.  After coming back to the church it became one of the issues to drive me away from it. Why did Christian nationalism flare up to such an extreme version in 2016? This post attempts to answer that question toward the end. Continue reading

John Welborn of Salem Church in Staten Island, New York Speaks Against Jerry Falwell Jr Returning to Leadership at Liberty University

John Welborn of the EFCA’s Salem Church in Staten Island told the Religion News Service that Liberty University needs a fresh start. By speaking against Jerry Falwell Jr he is one of the alumni doing so. But since this blog is focused on the EFCA it wants to camp out on Welborn’s statements. Plus this post also looks at the harm that Liberty University has done to evangelicalism and how its become in issue for those outside the bubble. This writer experienced this in Wisconsin when Jerry Falwell Sr blamed the September 11, 2001 attacks on liberals, gays and more. It became a challenge that a student leader in Campus Crusade for Christ had to address. Continue reading

Of all the Scandals Written About at The Wondering Eagle, Bryan Loritts is the Most Disturbing. Here’s Why

As I am writing about Bryan Loritts I thought I would step back and explain how destructive Loritts was to myself when it came to evangelicalism and church. Recalling My Formative Years Inside Evangelicalism in Wisconsin. Plus Deeply Embarrassing and Troubling Newspaper Articles About Dairy State Evangelical Christians Worshiping Donald Trump Over Jesus

Recently Evangelical Christians in Wisconsin have received some troubling press in the Boston Globe and the London Guardian. The publicity which is embarrassing discusses how white evangelicals in Wisconsin are worshiping Donald Trump over Jesus. I once called Wisconsin home and today stand horrified by what has developed. In addition the behavior of white evangelicals that I once knew from people like Steve Papez of Milwaukee Metro Crusade or Russell Schmaltz from Elmbrook further highlight these issues or of how some evangelicals are turning a blind eye. As I continue to push back from this stream of evangelicalism I have to grapple as to how the formative years of my life – my 20’s- were wasted in planting a Crusade chapter at Marquette University as well as being involved in churches like Wooded Hills and others. This blog entry is in part a post-mortem as to why I am pushing back from evangelicalism. Continue reading

The Sovereign Grace Child Sex Abuse Scandal and Bob Kauflin. Considering Legacy and Death and How Will He Be Remembered?

Bob Kauflin has been one of the strongest supporters of C.J. Mahaney. When the Sovereign Grace child sex abuse scandal broke it was Kauflin who defended Mahaney and moved to Louisville, Kentucky to support the embattled and corrupt minster. This blog would like to raise a question, what will Bob Kauflin’s legacy be? When he is in hospice one day and the Kauflin children are working on his obituary how will be be remembered in light of the Sovereign Grace Ministry scandal?  Continue reading

This is the annual review of the Cru Winter Conferences for 2018 and 2019. This looks at all the speakers, and agenda. It appears as if the conferences have improved. There doesn’t appear to be as much of a Neo-Calvinist agenda, and the celebrity pastor appears to be absent. The Wondering Eagle is pleasantly surprised as to how the Winter Conferences are this year.
