How Jerry Falwell Sr and Liberty University Poisoned Evangelical Christianity

Jerry Falwell Sr and Liberty University have long been a poison to evangelicalism. This post recalls my experience in planting a Campus Crusade for Christ chapter in the aftermath of September 11, 2001 and having to contend with Falwell’s words on television. In planting a Crusade chapter I had to deal with and answer some questions that were created because of his declarations. And whether l liked it or not it was almost as if Jerry Falwell Sr spoke for me and other evangelicals at the time. After all were atheists, gays, and feminists responsible for the large loss of life on September 11, 2001? Absolutely not.

Milwaukee Cru’s Steve Papez, Scott Papez, Stormy Daniels and the Sanctity of Marriage

Before the Lord a Biblical marriage consists of a man and a woman and a porn star. This is a reflection on what Steve Papez of Milwaukee Metro Cru believes is Biblical when he threw his theology system under the bus to worship Donald Trump. Recently for his 35th anniversary his son Scott celebrated his father’s sanctity of his Christ-centered marriage. So the real question is since a porn star is a part of the Christ centered marriage maybe Scott and Taylor Papez can open up their marital bed to Stormy Daniels. Continue reading

A Reflection on the Evangelical Persecution Porn Industrial Complex

A YouTube video looks at the Christian persecution complex. This blogger stops and reflects on his past experience with evangelical fantasy over persecution. Many evangelicals live in a fantasy world on this topic. Persecution for many evangelicals is like pornography and its nothing but fantasy. But an incident recently in West Virginia begs the question who really is doing the persecution? (Hint…its the entitled white evangelicals)  Continue reading

Twitter Thread: Being Disappointed With Evangelical Christians in the Trump Era

Last night there was a Twitter thread that asked who disappointed you the most in the Trump era? While some people named specific politicians others talked about evangelicals they once knew, their pastor, people like Franklin Graham and Eric Metexas. For me the thread hit home in that as I feel devastated by how much was lost these past few years, many other people are also dealing with the same emotions. In the view of this blog American evangelicalism needs to disappear as if stands for nothing and has no character. Continue reading

Learning to Hate Yourself. A Reflection on the Forever War Against Lust and Pornography Among Men in Evangelical Culture and the Destroyed Lives Left Behind

The New York Times has been writing about the profile of the Atlanta shooter and his “sexual addiction” battles against pornography and lust. Anyone who spent time in evangelicalism will identify with his purity battles that he dealt with.  In the “forever war” against pornography the battle with lust is long, exhausting and soul crushing.  Males inside evangelicalism realize that they often can’t win. And they are also caught in the dilemma of wanting to date but fearing of becoming sexually active while they do. Accountability is often a means of control and a weapon used by people in ministry. The culture against porn often uses fear and warns that if you look at pornography you too will become just like Ted Bundy and a serial killer hunting women down out of compulsion. Its known as the “forever war” and in evangelicalism it leads to PTSD, anxiety and other issues. Continue reading

Beth Moore Leaves the Southern Baptist Convention. What Does This Mean? The Convention is Dying…

In an interview with the Religion News Service Beth Moore explains that she is leaving the Southern Baptist Convention. Issues such as sexual abuse and how women are treated are part of it. But the rise of Christian nationalism and the embrace of Donald Trump in 2016 stunned her. The tipping point is seeing the same Baptists who went after Bill Clinton for his sexual affairs defending or explaining away Donald Trumps’ sexual abuse. This article is an overview of a number of issues that Beth Moore had with the Southern Baptist Convention. What does her departure mean? Well the Convention is dying. The death of the SBC will be good as the organization is not healthy, and instead corrupt and filled with rot. From its founding in 1845 until 2021 the organization has not moved very far over 170 years. Continue reading

At This Point the Emphasis Needs to be the Deconstruction of Evangelicalism. If You Stay an Evangelical Christian Despite the Constant Scandals and Problems I Would Honestly Question Your Faith

This is a haunting post to write but its another necessary one as I do an autopsy on my dying faith. For so many years I spent time building up churches and ministries as I was part of the evangelical machine. Today I am committed to their deconstruction Marquette University’s Cru being on the top of the list. But there is more especially in light of the constant scandals and problems at the churches and ministries I raise in this post. If you go to these churches like McLean Bible, Fairfax Community Church, or Wooded Hills Bible I would question your faith. Continue reading

What White Evangelicals and Christians I Once Knew Taught Me About Faith in the Trump Era

This is a hard post to compose, but its something that I have been meaning to do for a while. The Trump era was painful, chief among it was being at the receiving end of bullying, abuse or seeing such disturbing hypocrisy. Today’s post is about Steve Papez, Chad Hart and Josiah Jenkins and his family. Its about people in ministry I once looked up to who showed me who they really were these last few years. In this case the bridges have been burned and they will never be rebuilt. And with that I find peace especially with leaving such people in my wake.  Continue reading

Ravi Zacharias Sexual Misconduct is Confirmed and Considering the Cognitive Dissonance Issue Among Evangelical Christians

The board hired by Ravi Zacharias International Ministries confirms that Ravi Zacharias engaged in sexual misconduct. The report by Martin & Miller is posted on journalist Julie Roys website right before Christmas. This is a post reflecting on a Zacharias event in Milwaukee in 2000 hosted by Steve Mayer and prayed over by Paul Coldagelli. Cognitive dissonance is a major issue in American evangelicalism and it makes the movement toxic. The writer of this blog has had to deal with it regularly from evangelicals when he was one. How are evangelicals going to react to the claim that Ravi Zacharias misled and deceived people? Many evangelicals are going to be in denial and stick their head in the sand. Its all that many evangelicals can do.  Continue reading

Reflecting on Christian Nationalism in Evangelical Christianity and Being Caught Flat Footed in its 2016 Resurgence

This post is a reflection on Christian nationalism from 1999 until 2018. How it evolved over the years before surging in 2016 and catching me flat footed. Christian nationalism is deeply divisive and causes unnecessary conflict.  After coming back to the church it became one of the issues to drive me away from it. Why did Christian nationalism flare up to such an extreme version in 2016? This post attempts to answer that question toward the end. Continue reading
