David Powlison of the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation (CCEF) died on Friday June 7, 2019 in Glenside, Pennsylvania. David Powlison was a giant in the Biblical Counseling movement. His organization worked closely with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors and influenced evangelical thought on counseling. In addition CCEF supported and worked closely with Sovereign Grace Ministries. This blog wrote about how CCEF turned away an alleged domestic abuse victim who was allegedly almost killed in a domestic abuse situation from a corrupt Evangelical Free Church in Pennsylvania. In the end when you see what David Powlison supported and the corrupt ministries he championed its this blog’s contention that David Powlison is a solid example of what a wasted life looks like. An open letter to Greg Strand. This is encouraging the EFCA to address the issue of D.A. Carson attacking a sexual assault victim in support of C.J. Mahaney. Its time for the EFCA to act and do the right thing. After all Al Mohler of the Southern Baptists has recanted and addressed the issue. Why is the EFCA staying silent?
The Wondering Eagle was blocked on Twitter by Mark Driscoll’s The Trinity Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. All it took was two hours. This post is a Twitter feed of how it happened. At his blog Brent Detwiler writes about the relationship between Al Mohler and C.J. Mahaney and how that came to an end. The expose in the Houston Chronicle about the child sex abuse issue helped bring this issue to light. Continue reading
An old comment that I stumbled upon at SGM Survivors leads to a quick post. Was Sovereign Grace a cult or cultic? Or cult like? It was my conclusion at the time that Sovereign Grace was a cult, and that belief has not softened with the passing of time. Continue reading
How should blogs like SGM Survivors and The Elephant’s Debt be viewed? How do you respond to challenging information that confronts your world view that a ministry or organization is not what you think it is? This post is about such blogs. To discuss this topic I use The Elephant’s Debt to discuss the issues in Harvest Bible Chapel. Plus I also share what it was like to be invited to C.J. Mahaney’s Sovereign Grace Ministries and to read about the alleged criminal activity inside on a blog called SGM Survivors.
At the Facebook page of Redeeming Grace Church College and Career group Vince Hinders posted a disturbing quote. Its from John Piper and while it sounds good stands out odd when you consider the history and allegations of child sex abuse that came from this former Sovereign Grace church. I took a screen shot and used it for discussion today.
