Ravi Zacharias has died and with his death evangelicals are singing his praises. Evangelical scandal has changed and now follows people to the grave where their dishonesty remains. Dishonest in life means being dishonest in death. When Jesus says, “Well done good and faith servant” what do you do when evangelicals embrace a man who was dishonest about his education and engaged in sexting during an emotional affair with a married woman? Evangelicals ignore scandal and this blog dealt with this issue when David Powlison of Christian Counseling and Education Foundation died. But can you imagine when the funerals are held for Mark Driscoll, C.J. Mahaney, and James MacDonald one day how much lying will take place? Continue reading
David Powlison of the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation (CCEF) died on Friday June 7, 2019 in Glenside, Pennsylvania. David Powlison was a giant in the Biblical Counseling movement. His organization worked closely with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors and influenced evangelical thought on counseling. In addition CCEF supported and worked closely with Sovereign Grace Ministries. This blog wrote about how CCEF turned away an alleged domestic abuse victim who was allegedly almost killed in a domestic abuse situation from a corrupt Evangelical Free Church in Pennsylvania. In the end when you see what David Powlison supported and the corrupt ministries he championed its this blog’s contention that David Powlison is a solid example of what a wasted life looks like. Recently information came forward that Garrett Higbee spied on a person for James MacDonald. He did this while leading Soul Care Counseling at Harvest Bible Chapel. This blog would like to ask Brian White, if the Great Commission Collective is going to investigate its Director of Pastoral Care Garrett Higbee for ethical misconduct. This also raises questions if the Biblical Counseling Coalition and the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation will also investigate Garrett Higbee based on his involvement in those organizations. Recently on Reddit there was a discussion by former Evangelical Christians who are now atheist or agnostic on the issue of mental illness. They discussed the challenges and problems of dealing with mental illness and the barriers they ran into. Some wrote about getting help for issues later in life. The Friendly Atheist blog also picked up on the thread and wrote about it. Continue reading
Jackie Black is starting a Biblical Counseling class from Christian Counseling and Education Foundation. Jackie who helps run Redeemer Arlington in the Washington, D.C. area is going to speak about issues related to psychology and more. This post looks at the issues with CCEF and David Powlison’s connection with a disturbing scandal that took place in the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA). This blog must conclude that as a result of the former Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson, Pennsylvania that David Powlison is okay with rape and domestic abuse. Continue reading
Tom Allchin wrote an article for the Biblical Counseling Center saying that not all churches are that bad. Tim, who used to come from Harvest Bible Chapel Naperville (Today Highpoint) reveals in the article that he just doesn’t get it. I guess living in the bubble will do that to you. This article offers a response and says that it is much worse than Tim will admit. When you consider the Harvest Bible Chapel fiasco, combined with Sovereign Grace Ministries and Acts 29 issues the evangelical church is in a state of crisis and deeply corrupt. Perhaps its hard for someone like Tim who draws a paycheck from the evangelical industrial complex to actually admit this issue.
This is an article that reflects on an older post from Mike Anderson who led The Resurgence at Mars Hill in Seattle. What do you do when religion leads you to places that are dark and to behaviors just as destructive as alcoholism or drug addiction? This also reflects on what I have seen in my own life. Continue reading
