When the EFCA is Tone Deaf to Evangelical Scandals. Why is Ed Stetzer Speaking at EFCA One in Chicago?

The EFCA One conference is being held in Chicago in June of 2019. One of the key speaker/teachers/trainers is Ed Stetzer. Yes that Ed Stetzer who doesn’t know what ethics is. The same Stetzer who accepted gifts from James MacDonald while writing about him for Christianity Today. The same Ed Stetzer that has tried to silence people from the Harvest Bible Chapel scandal. The Wondering Eagle wants to raise the question, why is the EFCA tone deaf to scandals in evangelicalism? Do they care about the Christian faith and the Gospel?  Continue reading

How Should the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) be Viewed? Well it’s Complicated

Someone from the western United States emailed me and asked what are the problems in the EFCA? They are new to the organization and are trying to figure it out. I decided to tackle their question and give an overview of my thoughts about the EFCA from the 10,000 foot level. The EFCA has some great people, churches and leaders. However, it also has serious challenges inside the organization. This post from The Wondering Eagle looks at the EFCA from a broad perspective and offers analysis on the organization.

The Wondering Eagle for 2017, The Year in Review, My Assessment and What is Coming in 2018

This is the final post at The Wondering Eagle for 2017. In a year filled with pain and loss I wrote 300 posts about the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), Neo-Calvinism, The Gospel Coalition, 9 Marks, Redeemer Arlington, and also atheism and secular humanism. This is an overview of the top posts and my personal favorites. Also I discuss what is coming in 2018. In January The Wondering Eagle is going to look at a dark Acts 29 situation in the United States. Continue reading

Crossway Fellowship in Manassas, Virginia Gets a New Senior Pastor, and a Look at the EFCA in the Washington, D.C. Area

Crossway Fellowship in Mansass, Virginia installs Kyle Brenon as the new Senior Pastor. This post over looks the changes in Crossway and wishes Kyle well. At the same time The Wondering Eagle does an overview of the EFCA in the Washington, D.C. area and illustrates that the problems of Neo-Calvinism are deeply entrenched. In conclusion, if you are not a Neo-Calvinist, you are going to be a refugee from the EFCA in the D.C. area. The D.C. area is an indicator of the greater problem of Neo-Calvinism in the EFCA denomination.  Continue reading

First Free Wichita Wants to Introduce you to the EFCA; Plus The Wondering Eagle’s Long Term Goals and Agenda with the EFCA

After a First Evangelical Free Church members meeting in Wichita, Kansas in January of 2016 questions were asked about the EFCA denomination. On the church blog that particular EFCA church wrote a post about learning about the EFCA. I want to use that post to roll out my goals and hopes in terms of encouraging reform in the EFCA. In this post you will find what I believe needs to be done to make the EFCA stronger and healthier in the course of time.  Continue reading

Acts 29 Bill Riedel’s Redemption Hill in Washington, D.C.; How Healthy is It?

This is an overview of the only Acts 29 outfit in the Eastern District of the Evangelical Free Church of America. This is the history of Redemption Hill, a look at Bill Riedel the Senior Pastor and its ties to Bill Kynes’ Cornerstone an Evangelical Free in Annandale, Virginia. More important is the health of this church especially with Mark Driscoll’s DNA still contaminating the Acts 29 network. With what Mark Driscoll taught about oral sex, or even calling women “penis homes” is that theology alive and represented in Redemption Hill of Washington, D.C.? Continue reading

A Personal Reflection on Fresno Evangelical Free Church; Known Today as The Bridge Fresno

A personal reflection on Fresno Evangelical Free Church, which is today known as The Bridge Fresno. This explores how I got involved and my experiences in this church. Also I explain why if I lived in Fresno today I would not get involved in this church. The EFCA denomination has this one systematic flaw that I believe will eventually lead to the destruction of the denomination. Its autonomous nature is being exploited by Neo-Calvinists. Continue reading

Wanted: Stories about Acts 29 Corruption, Inappropriate Church Discipline, Membership Covenant Issues, Church Implosions and Polity Problems in the Denomination

A brief overview of the Acts 29 network and a request for information. This blog is going to cover and write about Acts 29 both in the Washington, D.C. area, The Village Church, and elsewhere. This post is requesting information on Acts 29 corruption, polity issues, problems at The Village Church, questionable church discipline, along with Acts 29 implosions. Its my contention that the Acts 29 network is struggling with the DNA from Mark Driscoll. This I would suggest has proven itself in what Matt Chandler’s church did with Karen Hinkley and the murky removal of Darrin Patrick from The Journey in St. Louis. If you have an Acts 29 story please contact me.  Continue reading

Why Write about Church Corruption, Systemic and Systematic Issues? Lessons from the Creation of the National Park Service in 1916

The National Park Service turns 100 this month. Over a century ago a number of people had the vision, and drive to preserve national parks. They ran into difficulty, and went against the culture at the time. In time they convinced others that places like Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon and others deserved protection. Religious bloggers are similar in that we love the church too much to keep it as is. We love the church and write and endure difficulty so that others will not. We write so that a person can attend an Evangelical Free Church or Southern Baptist Church in 2050 and worship in peace. Continue reading

Analysis of the Eastern District of the Evangelical Free Church of America

Today I do a profile on the Eastern District which is headed up by Dr. Eddie Cole and is responsible for all Evangelical Free churches in eastern New York, central and eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, eastern Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia. This post also puts the Eastern District on notice that I will write about corruption and polity issues of the Evangelical Free denomination. What drives me to take on this project? The silence by the Evangelical Free denomination on D.A Carson’s corruption, a traumatic experience that Eagle endured and personal knowledge of atheism. Continue reading
