A guest post by Karen Garst who blogs as the Faithless Feminist. This post looks at a chapter in Karen’s “Women v Religion: The Case Against Faith — and for Freedom.” This post deals with an essay by Candace Gorham that deals with the topic of shame from religion. The Wondering Eagle is excited about this book and hope that others will pick it up when it is released as a paperback on June 1, 2018.  Continue reading

The Wondering Eagle for 2017, The Year in Review, My Assessment and What is Coming in 2018

This is the final post at The Wondering Eagle for 2017. In a year filled with pain and loss I wrote 300 posts about the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), Neo-Calvinism, The Gospel Coalition, 9 Marks, Redeemer Arlington, and also atheism and secular humanism. This is an overview of the top posts and my personal favorites. Also I discuss what is coming in 2018. In January The Wondering Eagle is going to look at a dark Acts 29 situation in the United States. Continue reading

Secular Humanist Compiliation: David Silverman from American Atheist on how Atheists Should not Tolerate Intolerance, The Secular Student Alliance Moves to Los Angeles, California Under a Cloud and Other Secular News

This is a compilation of a number of issues going on in the secular humanist and atheist realm. David Silverman writes a solid article about how atheists cannot tolerate intolerance. The Secular Student Alliance is moving to Los Angeles while facing a revolt and dealing with allegations of sexual harassment. And the Freedom from Religion Foundation is challenging pastors housing being tax exempt. Some of the issues in this post I would like to dive into more detail about in separate articles in the future.  Continue reading

Do You Want to Write? I Would like to Build a Diverse Independent Team that Can Write The Wondering Eagle

The Wondering Eagle would like to transition from a one person blog to a team that can write about a number of issues. Those issues include atheism, doubt, Neo-Calvinism, the EFCA, Mark Dever’s Capitol Hill Baptist Church and issues in evangelicalism. I would like to bring on a diverse set of people in time who would have freedom to publish what is on their mind. If you are interested please drop me a note and let’s figure out a way forward.  Continue reading

Guest Post: Closet Atheist’s Boyfriend’s De-conversion Story

This is another de-conversion story by a college student where I believe he explains his journey into atheism. I ran a related post back in March and have been meaning to get this one published. If you are an atheist, agnostic or skeptic and would like to explain your story of why or how you left the Christian faith, I would be honored to give you a platform.  Continue reading

An Open Letter to Brad Pitt (On his Negative Experiences with Christianity, Guilt from Fundamentalism and Being an Atheist)

An open letter to Brad Pitt that is based off an article I read in Relevant Magazine. This is an open letter to Brad Pitt touching on guilt from fundamentalism, how science was handled, God’s will being manipulated, and Brad being an atheist. This blog encouraged Brad to wrestle and work things out and go at his own pace. I say this from one fried person to another fried person from fundamentalism.  Continue reading

Philip Yancey is Bewildered on Why So Many Evangelical Christians Adore Donald Trump

Philip Yancey wrote a hard hitting blog post a couple of months back about evangelical Christians supporting Donald Trump. In his blog post he said that civility, religion and truth took a hit when many evangelicals wrapped themselves around a man who boasted of sexual assault. This is a write up of Phil Yancey’s article and his video as well. Yancey quotes Shane Claiborne who said that mixing politics and religion is like mixing ice cream and horse manure. Donald Trump is what happens when evangelical Christians decided to sit down, put on a bib and feast on shit. Many Trump supporters also are not going to be able to say they made a mistake and will be like many Sovereign Gracers in the end.  Continue reading

Some Thoughts on Eddie Cole’s Article in Christianity Today on Sharing the Gospel with those Who Do Not Think of Death or Eternity

The Evangelical Free District Superintendent for the Eastern District Eddie Cole writes a solid article for Christianity Today. The article is about sharing the Gospel with those who are young who do not think of death. This post looks at some of the issues in the modern evangelical church when it comes to death. After all I have attended three funerals in the time span of about a month. Continue reading
