Mark Galli at Christianity Today on Church Discipline; My Question When is C.J. Mahaney, Mark Driscoll or Steve Estes Facing Church Discipline?

Mark Galli of Christianity Today writes an article on the grace of church discipline. In it he singles out Mark Dever and 9 Marks. This post asks Mark as to what rock he has been living under and reviews issues with church discipline. From it being mishandled in Matt Chandler’s church to it not being applied to C.J. Mahaney, Mark Driscoll or Steve Estes. Continue reading

How the Internet Helps Heal and Bring People Together

How the internet helps heal and how those hurt by the church connect and reach out to each other. This looks at the role social media plays in totalitarian churches and how I realized this in writing about Steve Estes Community Evangelical Free Church in  Elverson, Pennsylvania. Also if you were hurt by the church you are not alone, and you will heal in your own way in your own time. Each person is different. Continue reading

Is Neo-Calvinism Creating Mini Popes and a Misapplication of Scripture?

A comment by Daniel Roueche at Nate Sparks Facebook page leads to this quick and brief post. Its an honest question about how sustainable is Neo-Calvinist application of  theology in the end? What is its legacy for abuse, poor theology, and in the process creating a mini-Rome? I’ll let you guys discuss this below. Another post is going up later today. Continue reading

Re-Running a Post for T4G: 9 Marks: What is it? How Mark Dever Undermined it and Made it Worthless (Post 2 of 2)

What are 9 Marks of a Healthy Church from Mark Dever of Capital Hill Baptist? My interest in 9 Marks coming from a person who was formerly involved in the Evangelical Free Church of America. The story of CJ Mahaney and how he fled in his corruption from Covenant Life Church (CLC) in Gaithersburg, Maryland by taking shelter at Capital Hill Baptist Church. How Mark Dever undermined and violated most of the 9 Marks in taking him in, and affirming his sin in his run away church plant in Louisville. Also touches on the emerging of a new caste system and how pew sitters are now the new “Dalits” Continue reading

An Open Letter to Mark Dever (Post 1 of 2)

An open letter to Mark Dever exploring his scandalous history and his support for C.J. Mahaney. This also examines a classic question from the infamous McCarthy hearings as applied to Mark Dever. Plus is the reason why Mark Dever supports C.J. Mahaney allegedly due to the amount of money he has received or is he afraid that he could be blackmailed as well, just like Larry Tomczak? These are just my exceptionally blunt thoughts. Continue reading

Why Write about Church Corruption, Systemic and Systematic Issues? Lessons from the Creation of the National Park Service in 1916

The National Park Service turns 100 this month. Over a century ago a number of people had the vision, and drive to preserve national parks. They ran into difficulty, and went against the culture at the time. In time they convinced others that places like Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon and others deserved protection. Religious bloggers are similar in that we love the church too much to keep it as is. We love the church and write and endure difficulty so that others will not. We write so that a person can attend an Evangelical Free Church or Southern Baptist Church in 2050 and worship in peace. Continue reading

Time Magazine Writes about Sovereign Grace’s Child Sex Abuse Issues, Yet C.J. Mahaney is Still Scheduled to Speak at T4G; Eagle asks Why?

A quick post about Time magazine writing about Sovereign Grace’s child sex abuse problems. This is on the heels of the Washingtonian article. Eagle has this simple question with all these issues hemorrhaging out of Sovereign Grace…why is C.J. Mahaney speaking at T4G? Does the man have any shame? Continue reading

Why the Modern Evangelical Church Needs to Air its Dirty Laundry: Lessons from the Challenger Disaster and Ronald Reagan’s Call for Soviet Transparency

The modern evangelical church is filled with corruption…it’s time to take our dirty laundry and air it for the world to see. There are reasons why this is done, in the end it forces change. To make my case I am going to use one of the greatest tragedies in the history of NASA – that of the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. During the Cold War a challenge by Ronald Reagan to the Soviet Union illustrated how mistakes are dealt with publically. This is a post on why the evangelical church needs to be transparent. Continue reading

John Piper and Guns: How the Celebrity Pastor Movement is Crippling People’s Faith

John Piper recently ignited controversy when tackling the topic of whether or not a Christian should arm themselves. This post is not about the debate on guns, instead I want this to be a discussion on how Christians are being stunted in their faith by the celebrity pastor culture. Too many people are being told what to think and not how to think. Christians need to be encouraged to wrestle with questions themselves as that would better prepare them for life. This post is about how the celebrity pastor is crippling and handicapping Christians today. Continue reading

How Mistakes are Opportunities…Why Don’t Evangelical Christians Say they are Sorry? Why Don’t Evangelicals Repent and Own their Mistakes Today?

Why don’t Christians repent today? Why don’t evangelical Christians say they are sorry? From Mark Driscoll, to C.J. Mahaney to Andrew White…from the leaders to the people in the pews…why don’t Christians seek forgiveness and work to heal others that they have deeply wounded in pain? Since many Evangelical Christians don’t care when they hurt people and plow forward…is that another reason why the world doesn’t respect them? Also remember your pastor is sinful, and often fallen. At the end of the day he is just as broken as you. Continue reading
