In order to understand evangelical Christian culture one should read, study and pay attention to the themes from George Orwell in his classic novels. The themes of corruption, totalitarianism, censorship, blind loyalty, and more are used to paint warning to society. Because remember comrade, while all animals are equal some like your pastor are more equal than others. Continue reading
Daniel Montgomery disappeared from Sojourn and to those on the outside many people had questions as to what happened to the Neo-Calvinist leader. Today’s The Wondering Eagle attempts to fill in the gaps and explain why he left Sojourn. Using internal documents that this blog obtained what happened to Daniel Montgomery is reminiscent of what happened with Mark Driscoll at Mars Hill Seattle, but only on a smaller scale. This blog would like to know why couldn’t Sojourn be transparent about Montgomery’s anger issues, bullying and more? Continue reading
The Wondering Eagle recently obtained the North Star Theological Vision for the Sojourn Network. This blog is preserving it due to how other material related to Daniel Montgomery has disappeared from the Sojourn Network. This blog is interested in any stories involving Jonah Sage’s Sojourn New Albany or any other Sojourn church. Continue reading
The Wondering Eagle is noticing that some Neo-Calvinist churches are starting to dis-engage from Twitter. Here in the Washington, D.C. area I noticed this with Justin Pearson’s Sojourn Fairfax and Jeff Hoenshell’s Harvest Bible Chapel Fairfax. Also the Sojourn Network out of Louisville, Kentucky encouraged its churches to quit social media. Continue reading
The Sojourn Network which is based out of Louisville, Kentucky allegedly uses Redemption Groups. Created at Mars Hill in Seattle, Mike Wilkerson still pushes these programs inside evangelicalism today. Given the disaster that Mars Hill became and the abuse that existed this blog believes that Sojourn Network using these groups is problematic and dangerous. This is a warning as to why someone should stay away from the Sojourn Network. Continue reading
Over at Roll to Disbelieve, an atheist blog, they have a good discussion and article about authoritarianism. In light of the authoritarian issues inside Harvest Bible Chapel, Sovereign Grace and the late Mars Hill this article I believe is a good read. It will give a psychological understanding on James MacDonald’s behavior.
This is the final post for The Wondering Eagle for 2018. This article reviews the stories and situations covered in the year of 2018. From Acts 29, to the EFCA to the Sojourn Network, the atheist community and Harvest Bible Chapel. This is a wrap up of all the work this blog accomplished. Plus I discuss what is coming in 2019 as well.
This is an article that reflects on an older post from Mike Anderson who led The Resurgence at Mars Hill in Seattle. What do you do when religion leads you to places that are dark and to behaviors just as destructive as alcoholism or drug addiction? This also reflects on what I have seen in my own life. On September 30, 2018 Justin Pearson of Sojourn Fairfax gave a sermon on joyful partnership. In the talk he also explained why you covenant with the local church, and encouraged people to covenant with Sojourn Fairfax. The message was disturbing in several ways. First of all Justin is ignoring the covenant scandals out of Matt Chandler’s The Village Church or Bryan Laughlin’s Remnant Church in Richmond, Virginia. Also what the members of Sojourn Fairfax need to understand is that while they will be subjected to church discipline, Justin Pearson and Edward Hunt are above church discipline and it doesn’t apply to them. The Sojourn movement broke away from the Acts 29 movement when Mars Hill Seattle under Mark Driscoll was in the process of implosion. It started out of Sojourn Community Church in Louisville under the leadership of Daniel Montgomery and Mike Cosper. A few years later the Sojourn Network was started and Brian Howard was its first director. The Sojourn Network is deeply influenced by C.J. Mahaney’s Sovereign Grace Ministries (SGM). Dave Harvey came to Sojourn after his long history with SGM. This is a network that is growing in the United States and due to its roots and influence by SGM, also a network of concern.
