In the Wake of Dark Scandals in Evangelicalism the EFCA’s Tom Nelson and Nathan Miller at Christ Community Talk About Accountability

Christ Community Church in the Kansas City area releases a video about accountability in light of some of the scandals that have happened in modern evangelicalism. Tom Nelson and Nathan Miller’s video is encouraging and this blog welcomes their discussion on transparency. Its good that they are getting ahead of this issue and are working on it, and for that this blog respects them for it.  Continue reading

Greg Strand Fumbles Sexual Abuse in the EFCA. Its Been a Month Since the Miller & Martin Report on Zacharias Sexual Abuse and the EFCA Leader Stays Silent. Meanwhile It Took Strand 24 Hours to Address The Equality Act. Why Does the EFCA Downplay Sexual Abuse?

Greg Strand has a message to all those who like to sexually abuse and those who also travel to Thailand for abuse. His message is that you’re welcome to come to the EFCA. We tolerate and welcome sexual abusers with open arms and big smiles! This is the message Greg Strand is sending as he says silent on the Ravi Zacharias situation with the Miller & Martin report. Ravi Zacharias as this blog wrote about had close ties to Trinity who frequently invited and gave the discredited abuser/evangelist a platform often. While Greg Strand is silent on sex abuse he is more fearful of a gay person. This was all communicated when it took just 24 hours for Greg Strand to address The Equality Act at the national EFCA blog. Yet a month has gone by and the Miller & Martin report remains unaddressed. This blog didn’t realize how shallow and fragile the faith of the EFCA’s executive director of theology and credentialing ultimately is.  Continue reading

A Look at Ravi Zacharias and the EFCA’s Trinity. It Appears the Carl F H Henry Center is Taking Down Zacharias Material. Meanwhile Trinity’s Rolfing Memorial Library Still Has Zacharias Material in Open Circulation

This is a post that looks at the ties that Ravi Zacharias had with the EFCA’s Trinity International University which trains the EFCA and many of its pastors. Will Trinity admit it was wrong to promote Zacharias over the years or will they stay silent? This question is of additional importance as it appears that the Carl F H Henry Center has begun to take down their Ravi Zacharias material. Meanwhile the Rolfing Memorial Library still has Ravi Zacharias material in circulation and has not acted on removing the material of a man who was found by Miller & Martin to have engaged in rape and sexual abuse. Will Trinity take the right steps? If the D.A. Carson approach to the Sovereign Grace Ministry scandal with C.J. Mahaney is any indicator, the answer is no, Trinity will not do the right thing and will continue to ignore the basic teachings of Jesus.  Continue reading

Why the Evangelical Community in the United States Should be in Deep Gratitude to Atheist Steve Baughman

Evangelicals owe Steve Baughman a debt of gratitude. They should thank the atheist for his commitment to truth and his dogged determination in pursuing Ravi Zacharias. In the end the atheist is correct and the evangelicals are wrong. Last year in a blog post I asked if atheists are to be the critics of evangelicalism? Now this blog would like to take that thought one step further. Since many evangelicals can’t police their faith or protect it from conman its time for many evangelicals to be more receptive to atheists when they raise concerns about their ministries, churches and denominations. Evangelicals need to listen to atheists more. Outsiders have the ability to observe the issues in evangelicalism with fresh light. Continue reading

The Shallow Faith of Tim Tebow. Will the Celebrity Christian Athlete Weep For the Women Ravi Zacharias Abused and Raped?

As the Ravi Zacharias scandal continues there is one aspect that is particularly troubling. Its the silence by Tim Tebow. Tebow described the scandal plagued evangelist as his personal hero. Meanwhile he has not acknowledged the Miller & Marten report documenting sexual abuse by Ravi Zacharias. And as such he has not empathized for the victims of rape and sexual abuse whether it be in Canada, Georgia or Thailand. That is damning, especially for an individual whose ministry focuses on human trafficking. In an Instagram video Tebow was near tears as Ravi Zacharias was dying of cancer. Will he weep for the victims that Zacharias abused? Continue reading

In its closing let’s help the victims of Ravi Zacharias in this dark scandal. Continue reading

In a Rare Example of Humility, the EFCA’s Tom Nelson of Christ Community Church Tells His Congregation That He Was Wrong About Ravi Zacharias

In response to the Miller & Martin report that documents Ravi Zacharias’ sexual abuse and other misconduct Tom Nelson of the EFCA’s Christ Community Church sent out an email to his congregation explaining that he was wrong about the famed evangelist. Nelson who deeply admired Zacharias discussed the ongoing scandal with his congregation. Its refreshing and encouraging to see proactive behavior in light of troubling facts. Last year, Steve Baughman the atheist who pursued the issues with Ravi Zacharias wrote a post about Tom Nelson’s praise for the well known evangelist. The humility that is shown by the lead senior pastor at Christ Community Church after learning the facts is deeply encouraging and this blog hopes that others will follow suit. Continue reading

Greg Strand Needs to Take the Lead in the Growing Ravi Zacharias Scandal. He Should Guide and Help the EFCA Navigate Through the Spiritual Crisis

The Ravi Zacharias scandal is exploding in a new and stunning way with a report released by Miller and Martin that documents sexual abuse, rape, financial fraud and other problems by the well known Christian evangelist. This post is offering recommended policy advice to Greg Strand who is responsible for theology and credentialing inside the EFCA. Ravi Zacharias was a popular individual inside the EFCA according to the last doctrinal survey. Strand needs to get on top of this issue and help guide the EFCA through this spiritual crisis. This will have to be done not only for EFCA pastors but also for people inside EFCA churches who sit in the pews.  Continue reading

Dare We Ask the Question? Was Ravi Zacharias a Sex Tourist in Bangkok? Did He Abuse Women in Thailand and Southeast Asia?

In the report on Ravi Zacharias by Miller and Martin there is one aspect that is particularly troubling and demands further inquiry. It has to do with Zacharias travels to Bangkok, Thailand. Is it a coincidence that out of all the places he could have purchased property he chose to do so in the city known for its international red light district? And with the time he spent in Bangkok this blog would like to ask while writing books is the ultimate reason Ravi Zacharias traveled to Thailand is for sexual vacations? Was he a sex tourist who spent time in the massage parlors of the red light district in Bangkok?  If he abused women in Georgia what was he capable of in Thailand? These are questions this blog post is asking. Continue reading
