Preserving Matt Chandler’s The Village Church’s Bylaws and Membership Covenants from 2009 and 2014 Respectively

This is a brief post that documents and preserves The Village Church’s bylaws and membership covenants from 2009 and 2014. Plus the 2014 membership covenant is likely the  membership covenant used by Karen Hinkley before The Village Church tried to practice church discipline on her. If you recall she annulled her marriage to a child pornography addict in 2015 and faced church discipline for not submitting to the elders.  Continue reading

The Theological Conundrum Reston Bible Church Faces. Plus Why Reston Bible is Ripe for a Theological Coup Similar to What McLean Bible Experienced

Reston Bible Church is an evangelical mega church of about 1,800 attenders in Sterling, Virginia. Reston Bible is a church that has systemic issues under the surface. And those issues are not due to not believing in church membership. This is a church that has a conundrum. While it doesn’t believe in membership, its a church that is recommending individuals like Matt Chandler, Al Mohler, John Piper, etc… who advocate for covenant membership. Its The Wondering Eagle’s belief that Reston Bible Church in time will face a theological coup just as McLean Bible did. 9 Marks is in the process of expanding in Loudoun County and that makes Mike Minter’s church a target to be seized.  Continue reading

T4G Opens in Louisville, Garrett Kell on Photobombing Jesus, and how T4G Turned an EFCA Pastor Away from the Celebrity Pastor and Neo-Calvinist Movement

T4G for 2018 kicks off in Louisville, Kentucky. This article reviews T4G for 2018 and some of the panels and sessions. Plus on the eve of T4G Garrett Kell promoted an older article  that he wrote about how Jesus should not be photobombed. While I believe the pastor from Del Rey Baptist means well, the challenges from the SGM scandal have hung over T4G for some time. Plus I also write about a personal conversation I had with an EFCA pastor who attended T4G. The experience ultimately turned him off to Neo-Calvinism and the celebrity pastor movement.  Continue reading

From The Gospel Coalition to the Catholic Church: Remembering the 50th Anniversary of the Assassination of Martin Luther King on April 4, 1968

This brief post is about how some Christians celebrated and remembered the memory of Martin Luther King. On the 50th anniversary of his assassination in Memphis The Gospel Coalition held a conference in the same city to discuss racism. The Roman Catholic, mainstream and liberal Protestants also marked the day. This post also looks at the history of the Memphis Sanitation Strike and the King assassination.  Continue reading

Guest Post: No Man Can Serve Two Masters – Leaving Matt Chandler’s The Village Church and Finding Hope

This is the story of Matt Chandler’s The Village Church who threatened to practice church discipline on a celibate Christian who is same-sex attracted. This story happened before the Karen Hinkley situation in 2015. This is the story of Robert and his faith in God, and his struggle with the church in Dallas. Robert was involved in The Village Church and his journey took him out of ground zero for the Acts 29 network and in the process he found hope.  Continue reading

Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra’s Horrific Article at The Gospel Coalition About How Acts 29 Thrived After Mars Hill Ignores Many of the Issues in the Troubled Network

Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra wrote a troubling article for The Gospel Coalition last December. She talks about how Acts 29 thrives and grew out of the Mars Hill implosion. In the article Sarah conveniently forgets a lot of issues about both Mark Driscoll and Acts 29. From forgetting that Driscoll stated that women are penis homes to Matt Chandler’s The Village Church attempting to a place a  women her annulled her marriage to a child pornography addict under church discipline.  Sarah is an example of what is possible when one ingests large sums of Kool Aid.  Continue reading

Why is The Village Church Promoting Bryan Loritts’s Material? Does Matt Chandler Take Allegations of Sex Crimes at Fellowship Memphis Seriously?

The Village Church which is led by Matt Chandler is promoting Bryan Loritts material on the church’s website. Bryan Loritts was a teaching pastor at Fellowship Memphis, in which a dark scandal took place in which I believe child pornography was allegedly manufactured. Does Matt Chandler get that child pornography is illegal and a crime? Especially in light of the Jordan Root scandal which took place at The Village Church in 2015? Why would one church that dealt with this issue promote material from a pastor that was allegedly involved in the cover up at another church?  Continue reading
