Does Evangelical Culture Contribute to Pornography? Plus the Torment Accountability has Left in My Life

Does evangelical Christian culture drive people to embrace pornography? Plus looking at the harm that accountability relationships do to people. In my life accountability led to three painful situations. It destroyed one friendship from Campus Crusade in Wisconsin. Helping someone from Sovereign Grace’s Redeemer Arlington with accountability as an agnostic backfired as I faced a false accusation from someone who was frightened about adult pornography. And at Fairfax Community Church I learned how unhealthy churches can potentially use confessed material against people. And this happens while celebrity pastors like Mark Driscoll or C.J. Mahaney are not held accountable. Today’s post at The Wondering Eagle is about a warped aspect in evangelical culture.  Continue reading

Has D.A. Carson Separated From Trinity Evangelical Divinity School?

D.A. Carson who has taught at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School since 1978 appears to be no longer affiliated with the EFCA’s flagship seminary. Its almost as it Carson has disappeared. There is no statement on a possible retirement and the usual Neo-Calvinist organizations are silent about any such retirement. Did Carson’s statement in support of C.J. Mahaney in 2013 come back to haunt him and did the EFCA make a move against one of their most well known personalities?  Continue reading

As the Catholic Sex Abuse Scandal Unfolds in Pennsylvania Let’s Remember the Sex Abuse Scandal in Sovereign Grace Ministries. The Complicity of The Gospel Coalition, and D.A Carson Defending Mahaney by Attacking Someone Who was Raped at 13

Recently the Pennsylvania Supreme Court allowed for the grand jury investigation report into child sex abuse inside the Catholic church to be released. In Pennsylvania the Catholic church is in a crisis. Its important to remember that Neo-Calvinism also deals with child sexual abuse. And the similarities between what took place in the Catholic Church in Pennsylvania and C.J. Mahaney’s Sovereign Grace Ministries are striking.  Continue reading

David Platt’s Talk on Elders Sounds Good, However it is Deeply Disturbing in Light of the Politics and Alleged Intervention of Mark Dever Behind the Scenes at McLean Bible. Plus Does the Standards of an Elder that Platt Preached Apply to Larry Cooper?

The Wondering Eagle is looking at David Platt’s sermon from June 24, 2018 about the qualifications for elder. While the sermon is good, it fails in light of what happened at McLean Bible from 2015 until 2017. The scheming and power plays allegedly by Dale Sutherland in church leadership which David Platt condemns are actually what brought him to power. Also worth asking are the qualifications for elder going to apply  to Larry Cooper? Or is their dishonesty allowed and okay in the “greater good” especially if it gave McLean Bible, David Platt?  Continue reading

The Theological Conundrum Reston Bible Church Faces. Plus Why Reston Bible is Ripe for a Theological Coup Similar to What McLean Bible Experienced

Reston Bible Church is an evangelical mega church of about 1,800 attenders in Sterling, Virginia. Reston Bible is a church that has systemic issues under the surface. And those issues are not due to not believing in church membership. This is a church that has a conundrum. While it doesn’t believe in membership, its a church that is recommending individuals like Matt Chandler, Al Mohler, John Piper, etc… who advocate for covenant membership. Its The Wondering Eagle’s belief that Reston Bible Church in time will face a theological coup just as McLean Bible did. 9 Marks is in the process of expanding in Loudoun County and that makes Mike Minter’s church a target to be seized.  Continue reading

Ryan Fullerton’s Immanuel Baptist in Louisville, Kentucky Reacts to The Washington Post Story About Rachael Denhollander and Sovereign Grace

The Washington Post published an article about how evangelical Christians are in denial about sex abuse inside evangelicalism. The article tells the story of Rachael Denhollander and how she had to leave Ryan Fullerton’s Immanuel Baptist in Louisville, Kentucky. In response Immanuel contacted The Washington Post and admitted that they were wrong. The statement has some problems, but Immanuel should be encouraged for taking this act and admitting error. Its a step in the right direction for this key 9 Marks church.  Continue reading
