The Youth Group of Hydesville Community Church in Hydesville, California Shows God’s Not Dead 2. A Frank Discussion on White Evangelicals Warped View of Persecution

The youth group of an Evangelical Free Church in Northern California showed “God’s Not Dead 2” in May of 2017. Its my contention that the questionable movie franchise is the white evangelical Christian equivalent of pornography. This post is a frank discussion on the concept of white evangelical Christians facing persecution in the United States. In all honesty one must remember that many evangelical Christians not only engage in persecution of other faiths but of those who have no faith. Furthermore it is extremely disrespectful for white evangelical Christians to claim they are being persecuted in the United States when one considers what Christians are enduring in North Korea, Syria, Iraq, Russia or China.  Continue reading

The Wondering Eagle for 2017, The Year in Review, My Assessment and What is Coming in 2018

This is the final post at The Wondering Eagle for 2017. In a year filled with pain and loss I wrote 300 posts about the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), Neo-Calvinism, The Gospel Coalition, 9 Marks, Redeemer Arlington, and also atheism and secular humanism. This is an overview of the top posts and my personal favorites. Also I discuss what is coming in 2018. In January The Wondering Eagle is going to look at a dark Acts 29 situation in the United States. Continue reading

Evangelicals and the Environment: Some Thoughts After Visiting Glacier National Park in Montana

This is an article that was inspired by visiting Glacier National Park in Montana recently. Amidst the majesty of the crown jewel of the National Park Service a thought popped in my head. Why don’t evangelicals care about the environment? Why do many reject climate change? Is it due to anti-intellectualism or a desire to bring about global warming to usher in the end-times? Where do evangelicals stand on this topic as compared to more mainstream Protestants and Catholics?  Continue reading

Do You Want to Write? I Would like to Build a Diverse Independent Team that Can Write The Wondering Eagle

The Wondering Eagle would like to transition from a one person blog to a team that can write about a number of issues. Those issues include atheism, doubt, Neo-Calvinism, the EFCA, Mark Dever’s Capitol Hill Baptist Church and issues in evangelicalism. I would like to bring on a diverse set of people in time who would have freedom to publish what is on their mind. If you are interested please drop me a note and let’s figure out a way forward.  Continue reading

Ken Ham is Trolled by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Meanwhile he Attacks Atheists and the Media, is Under Scrutiny by Kentucky, Plus He Blames Hurricanes on Sin

An update on Answers In Genesis’ Ken Ham who has been in the news quite a bit in the past few months. From being trolled by the Freedom from Religion Foundation to Ken Ham lashing out and blaming atheists and the “fake media” for The Ark Encounter’s economic challenges. Then due to an alleged shady land transaction the Commonwealth of Kentucky stripped Ken Ham’s $18 million dollar tax rebate. Against all this a new poll comes out that reports that a literal version of creationism is at its lowest level yet.  Continue reading

An Open Letter to Brad Pitt (On his Negative Experiences with Christianity, Guilt from Fundamentalism and Being an Atheist)

An open letter to Brad Pitt that is based off an article I read in Relevant Magazine. This is an open letter to Brad Pitt touching on guilt from fundamentalism, how science was handled, God’s will being manipulated, and Brad being an atheist. This blog encouraged Brad to wrestle and work things out and go at his own pace. I say this from one fried person to another fried person from fundamentalism.  Continue reading

Why Write about Church Corruption, Systemic and Systematic Issues? Lessons from the Creation of the National Park Service in 1916

The National Park Service turns 100 this month. Over a century ago a number of people had the vision, and drive to preserve national parks. They ran into difficulty, and went against the culture at the time. In time they convinced others that places like Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon and others deserved protection. Religious bloggers are similar in that we love the church too much to keep it as is. We love the church and write and endure difficulty so that others will not. We write so that a person can attend an Evangelical Free Church or Southern Baptist Church in 2050 and worship in peace. Continue reading

Why the Modern Evangelical Church Needs to Air its Dirty Laundry: Lessons from the Challenger Disaster and Ronald Reagan’s Call for Soviet Transparency

The modern evangelical church is filled with corruption…it’s time to take our dirty laundry and air it for the world to see. There are reasons why this is done, in the end it forces change. To make my case I am going to use one of the greatest tragedies in the history of NASA – that of the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. During the Cold War a challenge by Ronald Reagan to the Soviet Union illustrated how mistakes are dealt with publically. This is a post on why the evangelical church needs to be transparent. Ken Ham Believes Homosexual Activity is why the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks Occurred

Over at The Friendly Atheist the other day they had a lively discussion about Ken Ham’s newest comments. Recently Ken Ham said that the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City, and Washington, D.C. which killed 2,977 individuals happened because of homosexuality. My blood pressure rose and this post is a result of what Ham said. This also explores why there is not a covenant between God and the United States like there is between God and Israel. Eagle is toying with the idea of establishing a “Go Fund Me” account to buy Ken Ham a one way plane ticket back to Australia in the wake of his comments about the origins of September 11.
