The Wondering Eagle would like to transition from a one person blog to a team that can write about a number of issues. Those issues include atheism, doubt, Neo-Calvinism, the EFCA, Mark Dever’s Capitol Hill Baptist Church and issues in evangelicalism. I would like to bring on a diverse set of people in time who would have freedom to publish what is on their mind. If you are interested please drop me a note and let’s figure out a way forward. Is Blackhawk Fitchburg Neo-Calvinist and a part of 9 Marks? This looks at an Evangelical Free Church in the Madison, Wisconsin area. If Blackhawk Fitchburg is not Neo-Calvinist why are they in the 9 Marks church search? Does this validate Mark Noll’s theory on the Scandal of the Evangelical Mind? Or is Blackhawk Fitchburg just confused? Continue reading
A look at the newest book by Mark Dever called “Discipling: How to Help Others Follow Jesus.” This looks at the problems contained in one chapter summary that was published at The Gospel Coalition. Mark Dever’s newest work has some deep concerns. I read this chapter and reflected on it in the context of issues in Capitol Hill Baptist Church and also the ongoing issues between Mark Dever and embattled C.J. Mahaney. I hope this will give people pause before they purchase this book from Crossway or elsewhere. Continue reading
First Free Wichita, a 9 Marks Evangelical Free Church in Wichita, Kansas, is apparently sending Curt Romig to plant a church in Abu Dhabi. June is missions month at First Free and has Mack Stiles coming to speak to this Evangelical Free on June 11, 2017. I would like to know if John Folmar’s United Christian Church Dubai is involved in this new plant, as I believe it is. 9 Marks is a deeply troubled system and today’s post notifies both Curt Roming and First Free Wichita that I will be writing about this troubled 9 Marks export to the United Arab Emirates. An article at 9 Marks about church planting and conversion in Pakistan drives this post at The Wondering Eagle. My question is the following…is 9 Marks with its culture of membership covenants going to aid and empower Islamic Radicals and hurt the Christian church? Does the Christian community in Pakistan need 9 Marks? Finally is Mark Dever the Neo-Calvinist Charlie Wilson who drives a program but doesn’t consider the end results or harm in a foreign country?
How the internet helps heal and how those hurt by the church connect and reach out to each other. This looks at the role social media plays in totalitarian churches and how I realized this in writing about Steve Estes Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson, Pennsylvania. Also if you were hurt by the church you are not alone, and you will heal in your own way in your own time. Each person is different. Continue reading
A comment by Daniel Roueche at Nate Sparks Facebook page leads to this quick and brief post. Its an honest question about how sustainable is Neo-Calvinist application of theology in the end? What is its legacy for abuse, poor theology, and in the process creating a mini-Rome? I’ll let you guys discuss this below. Another post is going up later today. Continue reading
