In 2015 some members and attenders of First Evangelical Free Church of Racine, Wisconsin stood in the Racine area and protested abortion. This post looks at how some evangelicals treat abortion and how many lack love. What if evangelicals actually helped people who were pregnant long term instead of engaging in short term activism? What if they responded in love and took people into their home like in one situation this author learned about.
Harvest Bible Chapel announced that James MacDonald is taking a sabbatical and will work to reconcile with people. This blog has its doubts given MacDonald’s behavior. After all James MacDonald had 20 years to do the right thing, and he refused. After all who desires to resolve problems by firing off a lawsuit against a journalist and The Elephant’s Debt? Any kind of sincere repentance has to include people like RT Maldaner, Dan Haskell, and others who were hurt in the Paxton Singer situation. This blog believes that John Secrest from Harvest Naples is in James MacDonald’s sight and that he is going to be abused by the Harvest machine.
Matt Stowell left a comment on The Wondering Eagle and apologized to a former Harvest Bible Chapel church planting pastor. I contacted Matt and asked him if I can turn it into a quick post and allow for people that need to reconcile or work things out to contact him. Matt agreed. In this post you will have Matt Stowell’s contact information and you can reach out to Matt. Please be patient if you contact Matt and it takes some time, there may be a few people who want to contact him.
The Wondering Eagle visited The Well Community Church in north Fresno on January 6, 2018. Mike Slayden gave the sermon which was pre-recorded and shown on a screen. This post reviews some of what Mike taught. While The Well pastor preached on Matthew 5:23-24 this blog has come to the conclusion due to personal experience that evangelical Christians don’t believe in repentance and reconciliation. Plus what do you do when a church like The Bridge Fresno make errors and refuses to atone for its mistakes? Finally as Mike Slayden quoted from Ravi Zecharias, is The Well pastor aware of the sexting charges and academic fraud allegations that came out about Ravi Zacharias? Continue reading
This is the final post for The Wondering Eagle for 2018. This article reviews the stories and situations covered in the year of 2018. From Acts 29, to the EFCA to the Sojourn Network, the atheist community and Harvest Bible Chapel. This is a wrap up of all the work this blog accomplished. Plus I discuss what is coming in 2019 as well.
This is a guest post about someone’s experiences in two separate Evangelical Free churches in the La Crosse, Wisconsin area. In this post you will see two churches through a younger person’s perspective. From dealing with authoritarianism, favoritism, to observing how her Mom was treated and much more. This made an impact on her and not in a positive way. She hopes that in telling this that a discussion can be started about church culture and corruption because in the end this person cares enough to share what transpired
Tyler Chernesky at Christ Community Church in Kansas City gave an interesting talk about friendship and Proverbs at the Downtown location on October 7, 2018. This post looks at Christ Community Church and Tyler Chernesky as well as the man who is the driving force behind this EFCA church movement in the Kansas City metropolitan area – Tom Nelson. The amazing aspect of Tyler’s talk is seeing it play out in a challenging trip to Missouri amongst a couple of friends who I have known for years who validated what was taught. Continue reading
Many evangelicals are flippant and cheap when it comes to prayer. This has been reinforced by my past efforts in contacting churches and asking for prayer as I tried to bounce back during a dark season of my life. Then I saw The Bridge Fresno (my former EFCA Church) bungle a prayer request as my Mom was dying in the nearby hospital. This post looks at issues with evangelical Christians and prayer. An open letter to Jason Webb the former Senior Pastor of Elmbrook Church in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. In this open letter I recall a faith crisis I had and how I hit bottom in my life. I also explain how I approached 140 people for forgiveness. I hope this can give Jason a road map to move forward. If he seeks out forgiveness and works things out with many people then then I propose that Elmbrook Church can become the only church in the United States that models grace, forgiveness and repentance. A disturbing scandal comes out of the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Missions Board (IMB). Its the story of Anne Marie Miller and Mark Aderholt. Aderholt was a student at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary who groomed and sexually abused Anne, Anne in time realized the severity of the situation and the IMB was notified. They did an investigation but did not report Aderholt’s alleged abuse to law enforcement. As a result of the #MeToo situation Anne had the courage to file a report to Arlington Police in Texas. Today’s The Wondering Eagle looks at this disturbing story. Continue reading
