Can a church plant be the fruit of sin? Recently the New City Network of McLean Bible planted Mosaic City Church in a trendy and hopping area of Fairfax, Virginia. One of the partnering churches is Kenji Adachi’s All Peoples Community Church which was sponsored by Fellowship Memphis. Fellowship Memphis covered up the voyeurism and child pornography of its worship pastor Rick Trotter back in 2010 and it broke in 2016. Does the planting of churches that have connections to Fellowship Memphis reveal or show how the Southern Baptist Convention is struggling with sex abuse or sex crimes? These are questions that need to be asked.
Cornerstone Lodi is an Evangelical Free Church in Lodi, California. This church is actually using the Authentic Manhood program in its Men’s Accountability Group. This blog told the story of John Bryson and the voyeurism and child pornography scandal at Fellowship Memphis. I am still baffled why churches like Cornerstone would use the teachings of a man who played a role in covering up an abuse situation at an Acts 29 church in Tennessee. Continue reading
On March 31, 2019 John Park an EFCA Pastor at Ambassador Bible Church in Chantilly, Virginia preached about how Christians should love. While it was a good talk in contrast to greater evangelicalism it was a failure. Many evangelicals do not know what love is. This post looks at John’s sermon and analyzes the issues with it. The Wondering Eagle visited The Well Community Church in north Fresno on January 6, 2018. Mike Slayden gave the sermon which was pre-recorded and shown on a screen. This post reviews some of what Mike taught. While The Well pastor preached on Matthew 5:23-24 this blog has come to the conclusion due to personal experience that evangelical Christians don’t believe in repentance and reconciliation. Plus what do you do when a church like The Bridge Fresno make errors and refuses to atone for its mistakes? Finally as Mike Slayden quoted from Ravi Zecharias, is The Well pastor aware of the sexting charges and academic fraud allegations that came out about Ravi Zacharias? Continue reading
At the Baptist News Global there was an op-ed by Mark Wingfield. The article looked at why the evangelical Christian church needs to admit when its wrong. This is a theme I keep bumping up against here. In addition Mark addresses areas where there should be discussion. This article raises some issues that honestly need to be discussed.
This is the final post for The Wondering Eagle for 2018. This article reviews the stories and situations covered in the year of 2018. From Acts 29, to the EFCA to the Sojourn Network, the atheist community and Harvest Bible Chapel. This is a wrap up of all the work this blog accomplished. Plus I discuss what is coming in 2019 as well.
This is an article that reflects on an older post from Mike Anderson who led The Resurgence at Mars Hill in Seattle. What do you do when religion leads you to places that are dark and to behaviors just as destructive as alcoholism or drug addiction? This also reflects on what I have seen in my own life.
