The Wondering Eagle Book Review: Amanda Farmer’s “Once An Insider, Now Without a Church Home”

A recently published book looks at the growing problem of Neo-Calvinist theology inside the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA). Its the story of “Truth Evangelical Free Church” outside Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is a story of how a church goes from elder led to elder rule. Along the way you see how a traditional EFCA church was theologically flipped. In this heartbreaking story you will learn about how it became authoritarian. In the process the Neo-Calvinists are violating the “Significance of Silence” which is core to the EFCA.  This is a solid book that this blog heartily recommends. The Camp Fire in California, Paradise Evangelical Free and a Plea for Assistance

The worst fire in California history deeply devastates Paradise Evangelical Free in Paradise, California. While 150 individuals from the congregation survived the fast moving fire, nearly everyone lost their home. In this situation Paradise Evangelical Free is requesting help and the national EFCA is rising to the occasion. This blog deeply supports relief efforts and hopes that others who read this post can offer assistance to help Paradise Evangelical Free rise from the ashes of this disaster. Continue reading

EFCA’s Church Multiplication Sunday Occurs on October 7, 2018

On October 7, 2018 the EFCA is having Church Multiplication Sunday. Its a push through prayer for more church plants across the EFCA. In this post you can see the prayer requests for the EFCA districts across the United States. I also urge the denomination to proceed with caution as there are a number of internal issues inside the EFCA that need mitigation. From pastoral credentialing gaps to managing the Neo-Calvinist issue. If the EFCA doesn’t manage and deal with these issues then this will create additional problems for the EFCA.  Continue reading

EFCA, Please Learn from My Mistake

On August 26, 2018 this blog made an error about D.A. Carson and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. This post is a follow up explaining what happened and how that error occurred. In addition I also use this mistake to teach the EFCA how to respond to errors that will happen inside the denomination. My hope is that the EFCA will learn from my mistake and become a better organization in time.  Continue reading

Terry Baird from Creekside Community Church in Napa, California on How to Have a Grace Filled Discussion

At the blog for Creekside Community Church in Napa, California EFCA pastor Terry Baird wrote a post about how to have a grace filled discussion. I give the senior pastor some counter points about how evangelicals can change their game. From going out into the culture more to learning to listen to others. This is a shorter post than usual at The Wondering Eagle.  Continue reading

Practicing Discernment: North Creek Junior High Dress and Swimming Guidelines to Prevent Someone from Sexually Stumbling into Sin

A discernment exercise from an EFCA church in Walnut Creek, California. North Creek Church as led by Dr. Kent Dresdow has its dress and swimming guidelines for junior high students. The goal is not to make people “stumble” into sexual sin. How do you look at these guidelines? Or is this legalism and similar to what C.J. Mahaney’s Sovereign Grace Ministries did?  Continue reading

The Youth Group of Hydesville Community Church in Hydesville, California Shows God’s Not Dead 2. A Frank Discussion on White Evangelicals Warped View of Persecution

The youth group of an Evangelical Free Church in Northern California showed “God’s Not Dead 2” in May of 2017. Its my contention that the questionable movie franchise is the white evangelical Christian equivalent of pornography. This post is a frank discussion on the concept of white evangelical Christians facing persecution in the United States. In all honesty one must remember that many evangelical Christians not only engage in persecution of other faiths but of those who have no faith. Furthermore it is extremely disrespectful for white evangelical Christians to claim they are being persecuted in the United States when one considers what Christians are enduring in North Korea, Syria, Iraq, Russia or China.  Continue reading

Inside the EFCA are Neo-Calvinists Violating the “Significance of Silence” to Hijack Churches?

Greg Strand recently wrote about the “Significance of Silence” at the EFCA blog. A follow up response post featured a comment by the North Central District Superintendent Brian Farone and two key Neo-Calvinist churches in the EFCA – Bill Kynes Cornerstone here in the Washington, D.C. area and Josh Black’s First Free Wichita located in Kansas. Despite what is said about the “Significance of Silence” The Wondering Eagle believes that Neo-Calvinists are violating the concept as they hijack churches inside the EFCA. A painful story from Brian’s district in Minnesota as well as how Josh Black flipped First Free Wichita only validate the claim that in regards to Neo-Calvinism the “Significance of Silence” is failing inside the EFCA.  Continue reading
