The Wondering Eagle determines the Evangelical Free Church of America and the status of Neo-Calvinism/Reformed theology in the state of Washington. As Washington is divided between two districts; two districts had to be studied to give a snap shot. This blog will re-visit this situation in the course of time when it returns to these two districts. Continue reading

David W Jones leads the Village Church of Barrington. Situated outside of Chicago this is a church in the Great Lakes District of the EFCA. As the Harvest Bible Chapel scandal unfolded David Jones church made a decision to distance itself from the Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability. This is a post that I have been wanting to do for a while as it touches on many topics that The Wondering Eagle has written about.  Continue reading

Jane Schaible Contributes to a Post for the National EFCA Blog on Rebecca McLaughlin’s Confronting Christianity. When will the Employee of Josh Black’s First Free Wichita Acknowledge how Corruption Causes People to Lose Faith to?

At the national EFCA blog Jane Schaible who works at First Free Wichita contributed to a response about Rebecca McLaughlin’s new book called “Confronting Christianity.” One issue that was not addressed it appears in looking at the book briefly is that of corruption. The issue of the Evangelical Industrial Complex and more it appears are ignored. First Free Wichita is dealing with a lot of corruption. This blog has deep concerns about First Free and would not recommend it as a place for people to find faith. As evangelical corruption can result in people being driven away from faith it needs to be on the same level as issues such as the problem of evil or pain and suffering.   Continue reading

A Response to Bryan Lair of the EFCA/Acts 29 Trinity City Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota as he Asks, Are We Listening to the Good News or Fox News?

Bryan Lair of the EFCA’s Acts 29 Trinity City Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota writes an interesting article for the national EFCA blog. He poses the question and asks are we listening to Fox News or the Good News? While Bryan communicates some good points this blog raises some questions in response. While pointing out the issues of anger that can come from Fox News did Bryan in his life point out the same issues of anger from people like Mark Driscoll? Or did he consume, PODcast and drink the Kool Aid from a dubious and questionable pastor who this blog believes had mental health issues? Continue reading

As a Member of Acts 29 and the EFCA, is Bill Riedels’ Redemption Hill in Washington, D.C. Prepared for the Issue of Sexual Abuse? This Blog Would Say No

Bill Riedel from Redemption Hill writes an article in The Gospel Coalition about building in accountability into a church plant. In the process he also pushes for “meaningful membership” and church discipline. Redemption Hill in Washington D.C. is a part of the EFCA and Acts 29. This blog believes that even if a church has these policies in place sex abuse would still occur. What Bill Riedel should have done is reach out to Washington, D.C. law enforcement and consult with them in building a solid       program to prevent sexual abuse. Continue reading

The Wondering Eagle Book Review: Amanda Farmer’s “Once An Insider, Now Without a Church Home”

A recently published book looks at the growing problem of Neo-Calvinist theology inside the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA). Its the story of “Truth Evangelical Free Church” outside Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is a story of how a church goes from elder led to elder rule. Along the way you see how a traditional EFCA church was theologically flipped. In this heartbreaking story you will learn about how it became authoritarian. In the process the Neo-Calvinists are violating the “Significance of Silence” which is core to the EFCA.  This is a solid book that this blog heartily recommends. A Neo-Calvinist Church, Heartland Evangelical Free in Central City, Nebraska Endures a Fire by Arson. If God Pre-Ordained this Fire is Heartland Sinning in Rebuilding?

On February 5, 2015 a fire broke out at Heartland Evangelical Free in Central City, Nebraska. The fire was found to be arson. This post looks at the incident and gives an overview of Zeke Pipher and this local EFCA church in Nebraska. I especially want to focus on the issue of the fire in the context of how Neo-Calvinists teach God’s sovereignty. After all can it be said that the church sinned against God when they rebuilt?  Continue reading
