The Wondering Eagle Book Review: Amanda Farmer’s “Once An Insider, Now Without a Church Home”

A recently published book looks at the growing problem of Neo-Calvinist theology inside the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA). Its the story of “Truth Evangelical Free Church” outside Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is a story of how a church goes from elder led to elder rule. Along the way you see how a traditional EFCA church was theologically flipped. In this heartbreaking story you will learn about how it became authoritarian. In the process the Neo-Calvinists are violating the “Significance of Silence” which is core to the EFCA.  This is a solid book that this blog heartily recommends. A Look at Rockpoint Church’s Political Comments on their Church Blog. A Gentle Reminder to the EFCA that they Need to Follow the Johnson Amendment

Senior Pastor Roy Fruits wrote a polarizing blog post that flirted with politics in the pulpit after the 2016 election. This is a look at what the pastor from the EFCA’s Rockpoint Church in Lake Elmo, Minnesota said. This post is a gentle reminder in the current election season that the Johnson Amendment prohibits politics being done from the pulpit. If this blog finds examples of EFCA churches that violate the Johnson Amendment I will report them to some of the atheist organizations I have interacted with.  Continue reading

An Open Letter to Merle Stoltzfus (Formerly Community Evangelical Free in Elverson, Now Brick Lane Community Church

This is an open letter to Merle Stoltzfus of Brick Lane Community Church, formerly Community Evangelical Free Church of Elverson, Pennsylvania. This communicates my thoughts about Merle. From his own small group to other small groups, Elverson and the greater EFCA at the time, Merle has quite an anger problem and its my understanding that a number of Stoltzufs children were embarrassed over how Merle worked to protect Brock. This is a letter I have been meaning to do for a long time.  Continue reading

Will First Evangelical Free Church of Wichita Hear the Lion’s Roar? What About the Injustice That has Occurred in Josh Black’s Church?

At First Free Wichita Josh Black started  a sermon series based off the Book of Amos on August 12. He talked about the themes of Amos and one of them being injustice. The question that comes from Amos is will people stop their idolatry and hear the roar of the lion? Josh Black has enabled a lot of injustice at First Free. Chief among them is when Dan Curnett was allegedly fired for his theology. Dan wasn’t a Neo-Calvinist like Josh. Does the senior pastor hear the roar of the lion? And will he own his mistakes and pain he has caused others?  Continue reading

Acts 29 Trinity City Church Plants Immanuel Fellowship in Minneapolis with Fellowship Associates. Is the Culture that Led to the Alleged Cover-up of Voyeurism and Child Pornography in Fellowship Memphis Being Duplicated in the Twin Cities?

On September 16, 2018 another Acts 29 church, that of Immanuel Fellowship will be launched in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Its done in conjunction of Fellowship Associates, which John Bryson of Fellowship Memphis is linked; and also Acts 29/EFCA’s Trinity City Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It is this blog’s belief that Trent Senske’s church needs to be aborted before its launch. Is a culture that led to the alleged cover up of child pornography and voyeurism in Fellowship Memphis in Tennessee being duplicated in Minneapolis? That is the issue The Wondering Eagle wrestles with today right before this weekend’s launch of Immanuel Fellowship.  Continue reading

EFCA, Please Learn from My Mistake

On August 26, 2018 this blog made an error about D.A. Carson and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. This post is a follow up explaining what happened and how that error occurred. In addition I also use this mistake to teach the EFCA how to respond to errors that will happen inside the denomination. My hope is that the EFCA will learn from my mistake and become a better organization in time.  Continue reading

The Concerns that Exist with Redwood Falls Evangelical Free Abuse Reporting Policy

Redwood Falls Evangelical Free is a small EFCA church in Southwestern Minnesota. On their website they published their abuse reporting documents. In their follow up the church makes a decision about reporting abuse to police or the appropriate government agency. The Wondering Eagle believes this is a good environment for child sex abuse cover up to occur in. Today’s post deals not only with the difficult topic of child sex abuse but also domestic abuse and elderly abuse. Today’s post asks the question does the EFCA struggle with child sex abuse?   Continue reading

Is Nepotism a Major Issue Inside the EFCA? From the Spenst’s of Trinity Evangelical View in Plainview to New Life in Hastings, Minnesota. Plus Remembering the Nepotism Issue at the Former Community Evangelical Free in Elverson, Pennsylvania

Does the EFCA struggle with nepotism? Two churches from the North Central District stand out for issues of nepotism. Those churches are Trinity Evangelical Free in Plainview and New Life Evangelical Free in Hastings, Minnesota. In addition I also spend some time looking at the nepotism issue at Community Evangelical Free in Elverson, Pennsylvania which was in the Eastern District of the EFCA. Its my hope that the EFCA will start to examine how the denomination can better deal with nepotism for the health of the EFCA.  Continue reading

How Acts 29’s Trinity City Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota Responded to the Neo-Nazi Rally in Charlottesville

When a Neo-Nazi rally happened in Charlottesville, Virginia Acts 29 Trinity City Church responded quickly to condemn it. Bryan Lair’s church re-published the EFCA statement on racism from the 1992 General Conference. Despite my concerns with the Acts 29 movement, which this blog writes about, I am encouraged that Bryan’s church responded in the manner that it did to this disturbing incident here in Virginia.  Continue reading
