T4G Opens in Louisville, Garrett Kell on Photobombing Jesus, and how T4G Turned an EFCA Pastor Away from the Celebrity Pastor and Neo-Calvinist Movement

T4G for 2018 kicks off in Louisville, Kentucky. This article reviews T4G for 2018 and some of the panels and sessions. Plus on the eve of T4G Garrett Kell promoted an older article  that he wrote about how Jesus should not be photobombed. While I believe the pastor from Del Rey Baptist means well, the challenges from the SGM scandal have hung over T4G for some time. Plus I also write about a personal conversation I had with an EFCA pastor who attended T4G. The experience ultimately turned him off to Neo-Calvinism and the celebrity pastor movement.  Continue reading

What The Wondering Eagle Appreciates and Respects About Neo-Calvinism

The Wondering Eagle is critical of the Neo-Calvinist movement in many forms. However, there are certain areas where the Neo-Calvinist movement shines and does well. From addressing racism, having a broader and more global definition of the church to having a healthier take an alcohol. Today’s post is a reflection on the segments of Neo-Calvinism that are healthy and good.  Continue reading

Does the Washington, D.C. Area Need Another 9 Marks Church? Deep Concerns about Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma Sponsoring Matt Felton and David Chung’s Trinity Church of Loudoun County

Matt Felton and David Chung were sent out by Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma to plant Trinity Church Loudoun County. Mike McKinley’s Sterling Park Baptist as well as The Summit Network and Mclean Bible’s New City Network are also involved in this plant. This is a look at a diseased church plant taking off in which the question is asked, is this what the Washington, D.C. area and Loudoun County need? This article looks at all the problems with this plant, including the issues with 9 Marks, which must include the way C.J. Mahaney fled Covenant Life and hid behind Mark Dever’s ass. If you could ever make a theological case for aborting a church plant, Matt Felton and David Chung’s creation is it. This is the first of many posts about The Trinity Church of Loudoun in the course of time.  Continue reading

With how Jonathan Leeman Writes about Biblical Conversion the Question Must be Asked, Does the Editor from 9 Marks Believe C.J. Mahaney Is a Christian?

One of the most read articles at the 9 Marks website deals with churches who do church discipline wrong. One point in Jonathan Leeman’s article led to a question at The Wondering Eagle. With how the 9 Marks editor describes Biblical conversion the question must be asked, is C.J. Mahaney a Christian? Especially in light of how he has continually fled? Also will a 9 Marks pastor like Garrett Kell or Mark Dever ever face church discipline? Finally how my unresolved conflict with Eric Simmons and Jordan Kauflin’s Redeemer Arlington shows that 9 Marks is a total failure and to be rejected.  Continue reading

Indicators and Warnings of McLean Bible’s Theological Hijacking that Would Culminate with David Platt Becoming the Teaching Pastor: An Overview of the Changes Chronicled by The Wondering Eagle from 2015 Until 2017; Plus What I Believe is Coming Down the Pike

This post is an overview of the issues that popped up at McLean Bible (MBC) a mega church in the Washington, D.C. area in the 2015 until 2017 time-frame that revealed MBC was being theologically hijacked. The Wondering Eagle picked up on many of the issues over the course of time. This post also contains a list of questions that need to be answered and what I believe is going to happen to MBC in the 2018 to 2020 time-frame.  Continue reading

Do You Want to Write? I Would like to Build a Diverse Independent Team that Can Write The Wondering Eagle

The Wondering Eagle would like to transition from a one person blog to a team that can write about a number of issues. Those issues include atheism, doubt, Neo-Calvinism, the EFCA, Mark Dever’s Capitol Hill Baptist Church and issues in evangelicalism. I would like to bring on a diverse set of people in time who would have freedom to publish what is on their mind. If you are interested please drop me a note and let’s figure out a way forward.  Continue reading

The Season of my Discontent: When the Evangelical Christians are Wrong, the Atheists are Correct, and the Neo-Calvinists Surprise Me; A Reflection on the Neo-Nazi Rally in my Home State of Virginia

A quick post that is a response to the Nazi rally that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia. Its time to speak up and condemn Nazism which has no place in the United States. Not now, and not ever. We didn’t fight Nazism in Europe in World War II only to have it spring up in the United States. The resurgence in the alt-right which Donald Trump exploited needs to be condemned. This is about the season of my discontent when regular evangelicals are wrong, and the atheists and Neo-Calvinists are correct.  Continue reading

Is Daniel Owen’s Blackhawk Fitchburg Neo-Calvinist and 9 Marks? Are they confused? Or is Mark Noll’s Theory on the Scandal of the Evangelical Mind Further Validated?

Is Blackhawk Fitchburg Neo-Calvinist and a part of 9 Marks? This looks at an Evangelical Free Church in the Madison, Wisconsin area. If Blackhawk Fitchburg is not Neo-Calvinist why are they in the 9 Marks church search? Does this validate Mark Noll’s theory on the Scandal of the Evangelical Mind? Or is Blackhawk Fitchburg just confused?  Continue reading

A Look at Mark Dever’s Newest Book – Discipling: How to Help Others Follow Jesus

A look at the newest book by Mark Dever called “Discipling: How to Help Others Follow Jesus.” This looks at the problems contained in one chapter summary that was published at The Gospel Coalition. Mark Dever’s newest work has some deep concerns. I read this chapter and reflected on it in the context of issues in Capitol Hill Baptist Church and also the ongoing issues between Mark Dever and embattled C.J. Mahaney. I hope this will give people pause before they purchase this book from Crossway or elsewhere.  Continue reading
