A comment on a post about Harvest Bible Chapel brings about a brief post. Did McLean Bible Church cover up a child sexual predatory situation? According to the comment it appears as if McLean Bible went to great lengths to cover the alleged situation in The Rock Ministries. This blog would like to get more information about this incident. This is the final post for The Wondering Eagle for 2018. This article reviews the stories and situations covered in the year of 2018. From Acts 29, to the EFCA to the Sojourn Network, the atheist community and Harvest Bible Chapel. This is a wrap up of all the work this blog accomplished. Plus I discuss what is coming in 2019 as well.
This is an article that reflects on an older post from Mike Anderson who led The Resurgence at Mars Hill in Seattle. What do you do when religion leads you to places that are dark and to behaviors just as destructive as alcoholism or drug addiction? This also reflects on what I have seen in my own life. The allegations of violence by James MacDonald that were written about in World magazine are troubling. Also disturbing is that James MacDonald is scheduled to speak at a Southern Baptist Pastor’s Conference in Birmingham, Alabama in June of 2019. The theme of the conference is “Kingdom Character.” How people like David Platt will respond is crucial. Remember David Platt was head of the International Missions Board when the Mark Aderholt, and Anne Marie Miller situation came out. Will David Platt be against the James MacDonald allegations of abuse? What will his stand mean for McLean Bible? And will the Southern Baptists ignore the allegations of violence and what does that mean for Harvest Bible Chapel?
David Platt wrote an article at his website about why we date the church. He starts out by discussing dating and then marrying his wife. I believe this article is flawed as people do not date in high school for the planned purpose of marriage. From my perspective its a flawed analogy. This article also looks at the other issues and reminds people that one of the reasons why you never enter into a membership covenant at McLean Bible is because you will be subject to church discipline. In contrast people like David Platt will not as they are above church discipline. Continue reading
Does evangelical Christian culture drive people to embrace pornography? Plus looking at the harm that accountability relationships do to people. In my life accountability led to three painful situations. It destroyed one friendship from Campus Crusade in Wisconsin. Helping someone from Sovereign Grace’s Redeemer Arlington with accountability as an agnostic backfired as I faced a false accusation from someone who was frightened about adult pornography. And at Fairfax Community Church I learned how unhealthy churches can potentially use confessed material against people. And this happens while celebrity pastors like Mark Driscoll or C.J. Mahaney are not held accountable. Today’s post at The Wondering Eagle is about a warped aspect in evangelical culture. Continue reading
