The Washington Post had a deep and long article about sexual abuse inside evangelical Christianity. The article looks at different situations and is one of the best reads I have seen in a while. This is a brief post Continue reading
Someone from the western United States emailed me and asked what are the problems in the EFCA? They are new to the organization and are trying to figure it out. I decided to tackle their question and give an overview of my thoughts about the EFCA from the 10,000 foot level. The EFCA has some great people, churches and leaders. However, it also has serious challenges inside the organization. This post from The Wondering Eagle looks at the EFCA from a broad perspective and offers analysis on the organization.
Brick Lane Community Church has exited the EFCA. Its statement in the local Elverson, Pennsylvania press was deceitful. It stated that they had to vote to separate from the EFCA and then align with the The Gospel Coalition. This post at The Wondering Eagle pushes back against that corrupt statement. After all in Eddie Cole’s Eastern District there are 15 EFCA churches involved in The Gospel Coalition. Plus it was learned that the most prolific pastors are Bill Kynes and Benjamin Vrbicek. The Wondering Eagle would like to ask, can Merle and Dave Stoltzfus and Steve Estes be honest? Continue reading
The Wondering Eagle visited The Bridge Fresno on Sunday December 31, 2017. This is my response to Jeff Loven’s sermon. In addition its time for churches like The Bridge Fresno to start to push back on issues that are hurting the national EFCA. In this post I raise the issue of D.A. Carson from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School who defended C.J. Mahaney by attacking a rape victim in a statement from The Gospel Coalition. Churches like The Bridge Fresno need to speak out and challenge the denomination leadership on acts of injustice. The days of being indifferent are now over. If churches like The Bridge stay silent on difficult issues then they are duplicating the behavior of the Jewish Priest who walks by the wounded Jewish man in the story of The Good Samaritan. Happy Festivus! Today at the Wondering Eagle, in honor of D.A. Carson (it’s his birthday today…) we are going to celebrate Festivus! While Don celebrates his birthday its going to be a “Festivus for the rest of us!” I will start in the annual airing of grievances and then readers are encouraged to participate in the act. This year I also challenge Mark Dever and Merle Stoltzfus from Elverson, Pennsylvania to a Feats of Strength! Continue reading
Hershey Free Church in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania is hosting Graham Cole from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS). Graham is TEDS Dean and its time for the EFCA to face and deal with the fact that D.A. Carson attacked a rape victim in a statement from The Gospel Coalition while defending C.J. Mahaney. In an era of massive push back against sexual harassment, rape and misconduct now is the time for the EFCA to address this issue. I would like to see the EFCA be on the right side of history. While going through the social media of Redeeming Grace Church in Fairfax I notice that Senior Pastor Bill Kynes of Cornerstone preached in 2015 and supported a corrupt church hemorrhaging allegations of child sex abuse. This overlooks the allegations dogging Redeeming Grace Church and asks if tribalism is a core value to be a Neo-Calvinist. After all in the EFCA you have Bill preaching and supporting a questionable church and you also have D.A. Carson attacking someone who was allegedly raped at the young age of 13 defending C.J. Mahaney. Continue reading
