In order to understand evangelical Christian culture one should read, study and pay attention to the themes from George Orwell in his classic novels. The themes of corruption, totalitarianism, censorship, blind loyalty, and more are used to paint warning to society. Because remember comrade, while all animals are equal some like your pastor are more equal than others. Continue reading
Someone from the western United States emailed me and asked what are the problems in the EFCA? They are new to the organization and are trying to figure it out. I decided to tackle their question and give an overview of my thoughts about the EFCA from the 10,000 foot level. The EFCA has some great people, churches and leaders. However, it also has serious challenges inside the organization. This post from The Wondering Eagle looks at the EFCA from a broad perspective and offers analysis on the organization.
As we start 2018 a scene from the classic movie The Matrix is how the year will be kicked off. If you are looking for truth you will find it here. You have two options before you…the blue pill that will allow you to return to your Pollyanna view of Evangelical Christianity. Or the red pill which will reveal to you how deep the rabbit hole goes and the corruption and issues which exist in Evangelical Christianity. What will you choose? Continue reading
After a First Evangelical Free Church members meeting in Wichita, Kansas in January of 2016 questions were asked about the EFCA denomination. On the church blog that particular EFCA church wrote a post about learning about the EFCA. I want to use that post to roll out my goals and hopes in terms of encouraging reform in the EFCA. In this post you will find what I believe needs to be done to make the EFCA stronger and healthier in the course of time. Continue reading
Bob Dewoody, the Senior Pastor of Fellowship Bible Church in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma is retiring in early 2017. As this Evangelical Free church searches for its new pastor it has one requirement that stands out in its pastoral search; it does not want the new pastor to theologically hijack the church. There is a lot that can be learned from The Bridge of Newbury Park, which is outside Los Angeles, California which took on a pastor and was apparently theologically hijacked in 2013. This is about the lessons Fellowship Bible Church can learn from that incident. Also this blog is going to extend an offer to the leadership of this church to help keep it from being hijacked. An open letter to the District Superintendent Bob Rowley of the Texas and Oklahoma District of the Evangelical Free Church of America. In this letter I explain to Bob what drives me and the time and effort I put into this blog. An unresolved situation from a former Sovereign Grace Ministries church tears my soul apart. Actually it feels like my soul was raped through spiritual abuse. Plus the work I put into this blog and the feedback I am receiving. This post is dedicated to one of the victims from Bryan Loritts Fellowship Memphis who is a victim of an alleged sex crime. I believe her, and I support her.
There is something that has been on my mind for a while and it leads to today’s post. It is my contention that many Evangelical Christians have a flawed understanding of what peace is. Peace is not just avoiding conflict but its also the presence of justice. If you are in a church that has problems but are afraid to speak out you are not creating peace, instead I would suggest you are enabling injustice. Continue reading
