Not All Churches are That Bad. The Cognitive Dissonance of Tim Allchin and a Response to a Blog Post at the Website of Biblical Counseling Center

Tom Allchin wrote an article for the Biblical Counseling Center saying that not all churches are that bad. Tim, who used to come from Harvest Bible Chapel Naperville (Today Highpoint) reveals in the article that he just doesn’t get it. I guess living in the bubble will do that to you. This article offers a response and says that it is much worse than Tim will admit. When you consider the Harvest Bible Chapel fiasco, combined with Sovereign Grace Ministries and Acts 29 issues the evangelical church is in a state of crisis and deeply corrupt. Perhaps its hard for someone like Tim who draws a paycheck from the evangelical industrial complex to actually admit this issue.

Does Christian Counseling & Education Foundation Take Domestic Abuse Seriously? Why is Steve Estes Still on the Board of Directors?

Steve Estes is still on the board of directors of Christian Counseling & Education Foundation (CCEF.) I remain baffled after everything that took place in Elverson, Pennsylvania that he would still be on the board. This blog would like to ask if CCEF takes domestic abuse seriously? If they did then they would remove Steve Estes from the organization and see that he is unfit to serve.  Continue reading

Does Evangelical Culture Contribute to Pornography? Plus the Torment Accountability has Left in My Life

Does evangelical Christian culture drive people to embrace pornography? Plus looking at the harm that accountability relationships do to people. In my life accountability led to three painful situations. It destroyed one friendship from Campus Crusade in Wisconsin. Helping someone from Sovereign Grace’s Redeemer Arlington with accountability as an agnostic backfired as I faced a false accusation from someone who was frightened about adult pornography. And at Fairfax Community Church I learned how unhealthy churches can potentially use confessed material against people. And this happens while celebrity pastors like Mark Driscoll or C.J. Mahaney are not held accountable. Today’s post at The Wondering Eagle is about a warped aspect in evangelical culture.  Continue reading

Why did John Barber Leave Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson, Pennsylvania?

In late October John Barber resigned from Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson, Pennsylvania. The question The Wondering Eagle has is why? Given the history that John Barber has with Steve Estes why did he leave? Was there a massive falling out with Merle Stoltzfus? Or can CEFC no longer afford to pay John’s salary?  Continue reading

As The Bridge Fresno Votes on New Elders, a Warning Based off of Experience in Writing About Difficult Issues in the EFCA and Modern Evangelicalism

On November 30, 2017 voting for the elder candidates closes at The Bridge Fresno. This post is just a quick article about the issues at stake and what could happen if The Bridge Fresno is theologically hijacked. This post is inspired by what I witnessed at Deaf Church on Sunday and why that unique community needs to be made stable for those in it.  Continue reading

The Dangerous Biblical Counseling Program at Pleasanton Evangelical Free in Pleasanton, Nebraska; The Wondering Eagle Would Like to Know Can this Program Leave Someone Dead?

Looking at the Biblical Counseling program at Chris Boucher’s Pleasanton Evangelical Free Church in Pleasanton, Nebraska. The Wondering Eagle believes this is a dangerous program that could result in exacerbating someone’s mental health situation, or possibly in someone’s death. Its time for the modern evangelical church to reject Jay Adams and Biblical Counseling and embrace psychiatry, psychology and science.  Continue reading

Do You Want to Write? I Would like to Build a Diverse Independent Team that Can Write The Wondering Eagle

The Wondering Eagle would like to transition from a one person blog to a team that can write about a number of issues. Those issues include atheism, doubt, Neo-Calvinism, the EFCA, Mark Dever’s Capitol Hill Baptist Church and issues in evangelicalism. I would like to bring on a diverse set of people in time who would have freedom to publish what is on their mind. If you are interested please drop me a note and let’s figure out a way forward.  Continue reading

Evangelical Free Church of Salt Lake City, Utah…Trading the Gospel of Joseph Smith for the Gospel of Jonathan Leeman?

Today The Wondering Eagle is looking at the Evangelical Free Church of Salt Lake City, Utah. This hard core Neo-Calvinist church is in the 9 Marks network. My question is does Steve Clark understand Mormon culture? Why would a person leave Mormonism only to get involved in a 9 Marks church and then face “church discipline” and be shunned a second time? Steve Clark’s church is one that The Wondering Eagle hopes it can close in the course of time. The EFCA should be embarrassed that in ground zero of Mormonism, this is the church that represents the denomination.  Continue reading

What Kind of Church will Elverson’s Community Evangelical Free Become if it Breaks Away from the EFCA?

This is a brief post asking the following question. If Steve Estes Community Evangelical Free Church breaks away from the EFCA, what kind of church will it become? There are at least three possibilities that this post explores. Plus some thoughts on authority which this church demands from its members, but in the end when the EFCA finds this church in error, Steve Estes and the leadership will not respect the EFCA’s authority. Continue reading
