Ryan Fullerton’s Immanuel Baptist in Louisville, Kentucky Reacts to The Washington Post Story About Rachael Denhollander and Sovereign Grace

The Washington Post published an article about how evangelical Christians are in denial about sex abuse inside evangelicalism. The article tells the story of Rachael Denhollander and how she had to leave Ryan Fullerton’s Immanuel Baptist in Louisville, Kentucky. In response Immanuel contacted The Washington Post and admitted that they were wrong. The statement has some problems, but Immanuel should be encouraged for taking this act and admitting error. Its a step in the right direction for this key 9 Marks church.  Continue reading

T4G Opens in Louisville, Garrett Kell on Photobombing Jesus, and how T4G Turned an EFCA Pastor Away from the Celebrity Pastor and Neo-Calvinist Movement

T4G for 2018 kicks off in Louisville, Kentucky. This article reviews T4G for 2018 and some of the panels and sessions. Plus on the eve of T4G Garrett Kell promoted an older article  that he wrote about how Jesus should not be photobombed. While I believe the pastor from Del Rey Baptist means well, the challenges from the SGM scandal have hung over T4G for some time. Plus I also write about a personal conversation I had with an EFCA pastor who attended T4G. The experience ultimately turned him off to Neo-Calvinism and the celebrity pastor movement.  Continue reading

What The Wondering Eagle Appreciates and Respects About Neo-Calvinism

The Wondering Eagle is critical of the Neo-Calvinist movement in many forms. However, there are certain areas where the Neo-Calvinist movement shines and does well. From addressing racism, having a broader and more global definition of the church to having a healthier take an alcohol. Today’s post is a reflection on the segments of Neo-Calvinism that are healthy and good.  Continue reading

How the Sovereign Grace Ministry Child Sex Abuse Scandal Makes the Nashville Statement Worthless

A look at the Nashville Statement and how it was made worthless by the Sovereign Grace Ministries child sex abuse scandal. This looks at the Nashville Statement briefly and asks the question, how could C.J. Mahaney sign such a statement? So being gay or certain forms of sexual activity is sin; yet the alleged cover-up of the rape of a child is fine? Plus the timing of the statement was really awful considering Hurricane Harvey and the Neo-Nazi riot in Charlottesville, VirginiaContinue reading

The Wondering Eagle would like to transition from a one person blog to a team that can write about a number of issues. I would like to bring on a diverse set of people in time who would have freedom to publish what is on their mind. If you are interested please drop me a note and let’s figure out a way forward.  Continue reading

The Season of my Discontent: When the Evangelical Christians are Wrong, the Atheists are Correct, and the Neo-Calvinists Surprise Me; A Reflection on the Neo-Nazi Rally in my Home State of Virginia

A quick post that is a response to the Nazi rally that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia. Its time to speak up and condemn Nazism which has no place in the United States. Not now, and not ever. We didn’t fight Nazism in Europe in World War II only to have it spring up in the United States. The resurgence in the alt-right which Donald Trump exploited needs to be condemned. This is about the season of my discontent when regular evangelicals are wrong, and the atheists and Neo-Calvinists are correct.  Continue reading

From Strange Bedfellows to Strange Fire: What is the Relationship Between John MacArthur and C.J. Mahaney?

This is an examination of the relationship between John MacArthur and C.J. Mahaney. This looks at all the times Mahaney preached at Resolved. Plus there is a question that must be asked..did John MacArthur or Grace to You receive large financial gifts from C.J. Mahaney or Sovereign Grace? It is well within reason to ask that given how Mahaney gave money to other individuals or organizations allegedly to influence. This also looks at how MacArthur treated Mark Driscoll vs. C.J. Mahaney.  Continue reading

An Open Letter to Russell Moore

This is an open letter to Russell Moore of the ERLC. The Wondering Eagle despite disagreement with Russell Moore on Neo-Calvinism, fully supports him in his efforts to speak boldly. This is an overview of the Southern Baptist Convention’s (SBC) racist history and how Donald Trump brought out the worst of the SBC. Russell Moore is dealing with both that and the cognitive dissonance of Donald Trump voters. The SBC needs a leader, and visionary – not an ass kisser who will kiss Donald Trump’s ass. For younger people like myself Russell Moore is a source of deep hope in many ways.  Continue reading
