An Open Letter to Liberty University Freshman Landon Nesbitt (On Rights, Responsibilities and Contempt for your Neighbor)

Landon Nesbitt organized a petition at Liberty University calling for in person classes, and rejection of all COVID-19 safety measures. This is an open letter to Landon on his efforts to challenge COVID-19 safety protocols. This letter while blunt is necessary given the threat that COVID-19 poses to Lynchburg and greater Virginia.

“A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom.

Bob Dylan

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

Matthew 22:37-40 NIV

I wrote about the issue in, COVID-19 Explodes at Liberty University With at Least 1,800 Students Quarantined. Meanwhile Freshman Landon Nesbitt Starts a Petition Demanding Restrictions be Lifted. This post is an open letter to Landon and addressing his thoughts and actions in the COVID-19 pandemic.***

Landon-

Before I get into this letter too deep I need to express how I learned about you.  For my other blog post I was researching you and Googled Landon Nesbitt. The very first item that came up was an Instagram account of a guy shooting an automatic rifle. That can’t be you I thought. I’m a critic of evangelicalism but I thought a mistake had been made. And to assume it was you as an evangelical shooting an assault rife, well I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt.  So I did some more research and found your petition page. Your contact info led me back to the Instagram page and I realized that was you shooting an assault rifle. So when I think of your involvement in Liberty, and the fact that in your view Jesus most likely died at Calvary for the right to own assault rifles. I am left to ask the question. Am I writing to a future Three Percenter or Proud Boy?

This letter is a response to your activity at Liberty to discourage anti-COVID measures and vaccination. When I think of how Christians responded to the plague in Europe and then I see people like yourself talk about your rights and freedom and contributing to other people’s deaths through your neglect. You are an example of why I am largely an atheist. Who the hell would want to be a Christian when people like you have such contempt for the people around them? Face masking, social distancing and vaccination work. The science is there to support it. The fact of the matter is that there is little claim for you to stand on. If you want to take a theological aspect to it, didn’t Jesus say you should not test your God? And isn’t your ejection of safety protocols show your mocking and contempt for God? Jesus says to love your neighbor while you Landon basically say fuck my neighbor. Your behavior helps illustrate why evangelicals are so selfish, arrogant, self centered, and condescending. Your stupid little petition and the behavior you exhibit has an effect far beyond your warped little world. Instead it also has the ability to affect public health in Lynchburg, and greater Virginia. This blog has no respect for Liberty. It really is nothing more than a theological crack house. Liberty is a blight on the Commonwealth of Virginia.

You claim your rights, and you can’t sacrifice for the greater good. Your narcissism has been given a platform by greater evangelicalism. I’m just baffled that you can’t contemplate or think of the greater good. Solid COVID-19 prevention measures can help those in the community with immune compromised systems. It could help those who have had to go through chemotherapy for cancer. It could help those with lupus and other diseases. Jesus talked about loving your neighbor. Landon, you basically say fuck your neighbor. You are the perfect example of why evangelical Christianity is poisonous and toxic. Your behavior is far from showing any sign of maturity and responsibility. If you were a mature individual you would realize that just because you can do something doesn’t mean you have the right. You’d exhibit patience, joy, peace, love forbearance, etc.. Your behavior exhibits none of that whatsoever. And if this is you screaming as a freshman what is the culture of Liberty going to produce in four years? Another Q Anon screaming terrorist ready to storm the United States Capitol in 2025? From my perspective there is really no difference between Liberty University and a Taliban training terrorist camp on the Afghanistan/Pakistan border.

You are obviously not about peace. It seems there are some people who want to see the world burn either for their own pleasure or for theological nihilism. There are some evangelicals who crave bad news and disaster because they fantasize about end times theology. Then there are others just out of their own narcissism or even possible sociopath traits that just want to see the world burn. They take pleasure in it in the same ways some take pleasure from pornography. Is that you Landon? Do you just want to watch the world burn for theological reasons? That is why I started this post with a clip from Batman years ago. Do you reject science, and COVID prevention measure so you can watch the world burn?

Well I have said what I have wanted to say. I will leave this letter here. I hope this gives you something to think about/

Very Respectfully,

David Bonner

  1. I got a good look at that rifle of his.
The collapsible stock and what I could see of the receiver say “AR-15 family”, but he’s got a full scope sight on it and the forearm and muzzle do not look stock AR-15. (Scopes are for longer ranges than optimum for an assault rifle.)

From this, I can only conclude that it’s a AR-15 customized with “TactiCOOL Bling” to “pwn the libs”. Which means he probably paid four figures for it.

  2. Just checked Kinsa again.

Lynchburg remains the HOTTEST COVID Hot Spot in Virginia, if not the entire country.

On a scale of 1-100, they score a 99 – “Cases Very High and Spreading Rapidly”.
