Liberty University is dealing with a growing COVID-19 outbreak. The school is quarantining and moving classes online but initial reports show that face masks and social distancing are not being enforced. This latest outbreak could have been prevented. But what do you do when you have a university who is hostile to science and known for the culture wars? Sadly in the view of this blog, this outbreak at Liberty is to be expected.
“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.“
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
7 for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.
Psalm 95:6-7 NIV
Liberty University is in the news for a COVID-19 outbreak and a flawed vaccination program that does not include COVID-19. Let’s look at what happened and how this medical crisis developed at Liberty.
Returning to School and Triggering a COVID Outbreak and Liberty’s Response
While other universities had classes on line or required vaccination Liberty decided to have classes in person and largely resume with little protocols in place due to the pandemic. There was no mask mandate in place before classes started on August 24. Many people traveled with no safety protocols back to Liberty. Social distancing was not followed at Liberty. Then a few COVID cases grew to a total of 159. Liberty has a COVID dashboard but it has not been updated since August 25. That 159 is split between 124 students and 35 faculty and staff members. 274 on campus students are in quarantine.
Liberty University due to the growing medical crisis went into quarantine. Classes moved online and the university is claiming to encourage mask wearing and social distancing. The shutdown is short and lasts from August 30, until September 10. However, many students claim that people are not wearing face masks. Nor is social distancing being enforced. Compared to other Virginia schools Liberty is not following and appears to be at odds. If you want to read more you can do so in the following articles.

Liberty is Not Mandating COVID-19 Vaccines
When you look at the vaccination requirements for Liberty one notices that COVID-19 is not mandatory. Its not treated like polio, hepatitis B, measles, mumps or rubella. Why is that? After all the loss and death, disruption and over problems why not push the vaccine like other schools? Is this due to the politicization of the vaccine and the former FalKirk Center and the culture wars which Liberty is created for?
None of what is happening at Liberty is any surprise to me. In the view of this blogger its the by-product of the culture wars, hostility to science, and the evangelical culture at Liberty. Will this problem be solved by September 10? This blog doubts it due to the poor vaccination policy at Liberty. These problems will continue and sadly Liberty is going to be a super spreader for COVID. You can’t have a curriculum that is hostile to science and not have these problems take place. My advice? I really don’t have any, I remain baffled as why people still think Liberty is a credible school.
