Information on Paige Hilken’s Memorial Service at North Coast Church; and Her Father-in-Law Dennis Hilken on This Loss

This post contains some of the information on Paige Hilken’s memorial service at North Coast Church this Saturday August 7, 2021. Again The Wondering Eagle blog extends its condolences to the Hilken family and North Coast Church.

For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-9 NLT

  1. OK. These are the details, and it looks like one medical hammerblow after another until she just cracked. Cracked to the point that suicide was the only way she could think of to Just Make It Stop.

As someone with an insomnia problem, it’s the “10 days without sleeping” that stands out. Any chronic sleep deprivation turns you groggy and brain-fogged. After three-four days without sleep you’re certifiably psychotic. But 10 days…

  2. A mom of 5 young children is a 110% job itself. I don’t know any moms that run a business while raising 5 young kids plus maintaining a presence as a social media influencer/blogger/youtuber and always having to look pretty/in shape plus homeschooling? Her father-in-law describes her as a “Super-woman in the categories of Christ followers”. I cant imagine how it must feel to have so much pressure and high expectations put on you. How do you get a break from this insanely busy lifestyle? Are the days gone where you could just be a mom of 2 or 3 kids without any other responsibilities/expectations?
    Its an incredibly sad story.

      • No lyrics available, just YouTube.
The song appears to be based on Marilyn Monroe’s death, but I think it applies to anyone who cracks under overload.

      • I don;t know why I didn’t remember this one until now.
Another song, the first verse of which would be familiar to any Canadian Professional Engineer.

      • Then there is this quote:

Tyrell : “The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long – and you have burned so very, very brightly, Roy.” – Blade Runner

    • Get used to it, Nyssa.
When I was involved in MLP:FIM fandom, I kept running into Bronies young enough to have been my children, if not my grandchildren.

  3. NEW DEVELOPMENT – The Roys Report is covering the suicide over at and these things came up in the comment thread:

    1) Pastor/Husband IS the one “who peed on his wife tin the shower o Mark His Territory” as covered here in

    2) North Coast Church has one of the most intense and restrictive Christianese Purity Cultures of any church culture.

    3) Paige had 5 children (the last a home birth shortly before her suicide) at about the same rate and frequency as The Duggars. Possible Quiverfull breeder, and you know all the other baggage that goes with Quiverfull Purity Culture.

  4. “possible Quiverfull breeder”.
What a hideous way to describe a woman… as a ‘breeder’. Your language betrays your motive and mindset – the young woman in questions deserves better. Have the conversations you need to have about Quiverfull, but refrain from reducing women to crass animal husbandry terms.

  5. How about a guy making more than $200k who is never at home, who was positioned in senior leadership long before he was emotionally ready, whose mentor is blind to his ambitions and faults? While it is indeed tragic, it’s not entirely unexpected. Poor girl was groomed in her teens, pregnant or breastfeeding her entire adult life, and never supported in practical ways by an absent husband who is already moving on to piss on a new bride.
