David Platt, McLean Bible and Addressing False Accusations

Last night at the McLean Bible congregation meeting David Platt addressed an outrageous claim and read part of an email. The claim is that David Platt is going to sell McLean Bible and turn it over to Muslims. It is a false accusation and part of a disinformation effort. I felt sick as I listened to it, especially as this blogger once was subjected to a false accusation. This post is about false accusations and this blog rejects any such behavior against David Platt and his family. This blog wants people to stick to the facts and remain level headed and not resort to the behavior of those like Dale Sutherland or Mark Dever who worked to perform a theological coup at McLean Bible several years ago.

“Accusations fit on a bumper sticker; the truth takes longer.”

Michael Hayden

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

My late Dad standing over my Mom in a medical crisis in California. Spiritual abuse and a false accusation that I endured penetrated this tragic scene.

This is going to be a hard post to write. Its personal, impacting and hits really sensitive nerves with me. But in the interest of being fair and calling a spade a spade I need to communicate some difficult emotions. Last night I attended the McLean Bible congregation meeting and did a write up of it in, “McLean Bible’s June 30, 2021 Congregation Meeting.” At the meeting David Platt talked about a concerted effort to throw the elder election that took place last night. Platt also read a letter that was circulated online that stated that the pastor is planning on selling McLean Bible and giving the church to the Muslims. It is outrageous and blatant disinformation. And even as a former evangelical and spiritual nothing as I sat there in the sanctuary taking notes when I heard this my blood pressure rose in anger. Let’s talk about false accusations so you can understand where I am coming from.

Redeemer Arlington, May 8, 2013 and a False Accusation That I Never Recovered From

This blog was born out of sweat, tears, and PTSD from a false accusation that threatened my wellbeing, and ability to earn income.  In the years of 2012 and 2013 I had an Air Force officer who once graduated from the United States Air Force Academy who was evangelizing me here in the Washington, D.C. area. His name is “Andrew White” which is a pseudonym at this blog. He was a small group leader at Redeemer Arlington and was discipled by Jordan Kauflin. Andrew was trying to get me involved in Redeemer and I reacted with horror when I saw all the sex abuse hemorrhaging from C.J. Mahaney’s Sovereign Grace Ministries. We fought and clashed and had heated verbal exchanges that I have not had since and hope I never have again. Andrew then did something that I never recovered from. He went for my juggler. This Air Force Officer who last I heard speaks about his faith for the Navigators did something terrifying and came out of the blue. Andrew often evangelized me.  He  invited me into his home,  wanted to grab lunch regularly and even asked me to change the password on his computer so he cold not access pornography. All of that shocked me in what Andrew triggered.  Andrew launched a false accusation against me. He went to an employer and claimed that I was stalking him. He questioned my mental health and used his rank as Air Force Captain to pull this all off. On May 8, 2013 I was hauled into an office based off a false accusation and threatened to be turned over to law enforcement for a crime that was never committed. The false accusation threatened my name, ability to make incomes and created almost a PTSD effect. I would be in a grocery store or gym and would hear the word stalk and for someone unknown reason I would break down and cry and shake. I had no idea what was happening to me. Andrew did all this so he could focus on recruiting another person to Redeemer Arlington. I wrote about the situation in detail in an older blog post you can access in, “How I Managed a False Accusation Given Birth to by a USAF Captain and Care Group Leader from Redeemer Arlington for 408 Days.” An attorney explained to me how I was sitting on a defamation of character lawsuit against Andrew.

The false accusation was painful. It was sick and to my horror an Air Force Captain taught me why rape and sexual assault is a problem in the United States military. In the end it boils down to abuse of authority which is what Andrew White did. But it didn’t end with me, the false accusation also hurt my family. My Mom in California at the time felt it. Even when I did not tell her she, through motherly instinct, knew that I was in danger. When my Mom became deeply ill in 2016 in what would be a terminal illness that unresolved false accusation still was an issue. In one of the times that my Mom was cognizant in a hospital room she was concerned about my ability to change jobs. I was fucking enraged to put it mildly. My loving mother had the right to deal with her terminal illness in peace. Just as she and everyone has the right to die in peace. So I know how a false accusation feels. I know the pain, trauma and the psychological effects that can come from one. The picture up above was one that I used when updating family and neighbors of the medical crisis. But look at it? Is that a place where a false accusation belongs? Absolutely not and yet that is exactly what happened.

Before I Get into the False Accusation, Yes This All Happened

In doing a blog that constitutes religious intelligence I seek out sources and speak with a lot of people. I spoke with enough sources to say the following with fact.

  1. Yes Dale Sutherland worked with Mark Dever to theologically flip McLean Bible.
  2. Yes, a large number of staff at McLean Bible lost their jobs in the theological coup.
  3. Yes, Larry Cooper lied about McLean Bible joining the Southern Baptists in 2017, yes he lied repeatedly.  And if he thinks he is telling the truth than maybe he should lead an elder board in a memory care center.
  4. Yes the elder board under Lon Solomon was filled with a bunch of incompetent yes men.
  5. Yes, McLean Bible badly mishandled the Scott Woods predatory situation, which is indicative of the problems of sex abuse inside the Southern Baptist Convention.
  6. Yes the staff at McLean that lost their jobs in the theological coup some of them are dealing with mental health issues due to the stress of what happened. For me this is deeply disturbing.
  7. Yes, the staff who lost their jobs also had to sign non disclosure agreements (NDA) which silenced them. I can understand signing an NDA when you join an organization like Chase, Merrill Lynch, Lockheed Martin or the CIA. But a church? What trade secrets does McLean Bible want or need to protect? What propriety, sensitive or classified information does McLean Bible manage?

All of this happened and this blogger stands behind every post that I have written about the above topics.  People behind the scenes shared some of this with me and a couple were afraid. This blog still wants to publish the NDA used when McLean Bible was flipped. If someone can send it to me this blog would be grateful. I’ve published other NDA’s from Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago to Mark Driscoll’s The Trinity Church in Arizona here at this blog.

But That Does Not Justify False Accusations and Information Warfare Campaigns

But the abuse, hard core inside political fights that took place do not justify false accusations that are made against David Platt, his family or any other individual. I disagree with David Platt often, especially as a outsider to evangelicalism. But this blog does not condone or encourage false accusations as a tool to be used. When I heard that claim about Muslims and McLean Bible I was disgusted for two reasons. One it is false. There is no truth to the claim, how anyone can even believe that is beyond me. Its depressing to think that is where we are at today in the post truth era, throwing around claims that have no credibility. Second the claim about the Muslims is more an effort of practicing information warfare. I am well versed in history and recognize such techniques and find it disturbing that such techniques would be employed. This blog does not engage in information warfare, instead it analyzes and writes about issues in evangelicalism. I could not engage or be a part of an information warfare effort. There is enough to discuss at McLean Bible already without getting into these issues.

For example have you noticed that those making the claims about Muslims aren’t talking about more relevant issues? No criticism of Calvinist theology which David Platt holds? No discussions about how Calvinism makes the problem of evil worse or even how Calvin had Michael Servetus executed by being burned at the stake in Geneva? There is no talk about how Calvinists can be more authoritarian. But instead there are claims which are cable news centered about McLean Bible and Muslims. That’s petty, disgusting and not where these arguments should be. My challenge to this crowd is to rise to the occasion and be better individuals than the Mark Devers and Dale Southerlands who flipped McLean Bible.

To David Platt and the Staff of McLean Bible The Wondering Eagle Communicates the Following

This blog condemns such behavior as David Platt described. That is not healthy or ethical and this blog categorically rejects that kind of false accusations being made. Up above I wrote about a false accusation I endured. This blogger years ago learned why rape and sexual assault is a problem in the military through a serious false accusation that was triggered by an Air Force officer and leader at Redeemer Arlington. This blog doesn’t believe that such behavior is appropriate or right. And having experienced it I would not want anyone to go through such an experience. That also includes even the likely sociopath that made the false accusation against me.

Now having said that this blog will write about the facts. McLean Bible probably does not want people to know about how NDAs are used by the megachurch. Nor did you want to have the Scott Woods situation made public which this blog exposed abd brought to the surface. And yet that all happened and is based in facts. So this blog will stick to the facts in writing about these issues. You may not like where I am coming from, especially someone who has walked away from evangelicalism. You may not like this blog writing about certain aspects of McLean Bible culture but this blog will never engage in information warfare. I detest tribalism and that makes this blog different. There are some blogs that focus on anti-Calvinists to the point they ignore issues in their own camp. Not this blog. I’ve been critical of both the Calvinists and Christian nationalists respectively. I look at all sides. And I plan to continue to do that when needed. After hearing what was said last night I realized this blog needed to address this issue. To David Platt this blog expresses its remorse over such claims. And in the spirit of that effort this blog will not engage or even encourage such malevolent activity. With that said this blog wishes the Platt family well.
