The Pursuit NW is a charismatic church in Snohomish, Washington. Their pastor Russell Johnson did a fear mongering video that claimed that they will not close church to the Washington State Attorney General. Jake the Atheist did a response in which he analyzed their video and showed the problems with the theology and fear mongering. Responding to a health crisis and masking up is common sense and safety in practice. Its a good video that this blog wants to push.
“Leadership – leadership is about taking responsibility, not making excuses.“
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
Romans 13: 1-2 NIV
Russell Johnson this blog wants to ask you in going against authority that God has installed are you sinning? Are you bringing judgment against yourself?
Remember its all about Jesus!
The Pursuit NW is a charismatic evangelical church in Snohomish, Washington. Its run by Russell and Marija Johnson. This church is in the same theological stream as Bethel Church in Redding, California, and actually they are having Bill Johnson speak at their conference in April of 2021.
Jake is an atheist who analyzed their video dealing with the Washington State health decisions regarding COVID-19. Its hard to know whether or not this is a faith based system or Fox News at times. This video is supposedly a response to the Washington Attorney General. Jake does a great job breaking down the video and explaining the video; plus he also explains how evangelicals in the United States have Christian privilege. This blog would encourage you to watch Jake’s feedback, as he accurately calls out Russell Johnson’s fear mongering. The video is posted above.
Jake word of advice. You said that you need to take a long shower after watching this video. I can’t tell you how many times I need to take a shower to try and get these systems I visit and write about out of my system. That was pre-pandemic of course. Showers are necessary when dealing with autocratic theological systems that are anchored in tyranny. Keep at it Jake! 😀
