The Thinking Atheist and Andrew Seidel from the Freedom From Religion Foundation discuss Christian nationalism and its role in the January 6, 2021 insurrection. Its a good presentation from an atheist perspective. This blog has a lot of respect for atheists and would encourage people to listen to this discussion.
“Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind.“
Albert Einstein
According to Andrew Seidel the violence at the United States Capitol was a long time coming. Evangelicals who push a Christian nationalism narrative are not Americans as they are pushing a claim of the country that never existed. The discussion also touches on evangelicals embracing Q Anon. Evangelicalism is a movement that thrives off disinformation. As Seidel says that when evangelicals accept disinformation they are more open to disinformation. That is why evangelicals are becoming deeply immersed in more conspiracies. The United States got a wake up call on January 6, 2021 and realized how evangelicals are not only authoritarian but also a threat to the United States as well. In the discussion it is discussed how the Christian cross is used to rally people to engage in violence. This is a good presentation that looks at Christian nationalism and the problems that come from the movement. And this blog respects organizations like the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
