A disturbing story was recently posted to a survivors group of people who were once involved with Larry Osbrone’s. It deals with a young male who allegedly sexually abused someone from outside the church. According to the Instagram comment the alleged perpetrator is still involved inside North Coast Church. This blog post is designed to be a public service announcement for North Coast Church.
“You took away my worth, my privacy, my energy, my time, my safety, my intimacy, my confidence, my own voice, until now.“
“Forgetting is difficult. Remembering is worse.“
You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope.
Psalm 119:114 NLT
North Coast Church
The subject of sexual abuse is a major issues inside modern day evangelicalism. I would like to use this post to open up a discussion on the allegations of sexual abuse inside North Coast Church. On an Instagram account serious allegations have surfaced about David “Chancho” Garcia and Jacob Cutler. This blog is going to write about those individuals and the allegations coming forward. But before we continue let’s look at an allegation that was published recently on Instagram. Its disturbing and unsettling and raises the question is there a predator walking freely inside Larry Osborne’s North Coast Church?
A Disturbing Post at the North Coast Church Abuse Instagram Account
Please read this following comment that was left by someone who was once involved with someone inside North Coast Church.
I had an experience with a North Coast member. We became friends in about 4th grade, and when 5th grade came around, he was the first person to introduce me to pornography. At this age, I didn’t know what that was and the impact it could have on me in the future. I wanted him to like me as a friend so I started to watch it. However, about a year later, he started to ask me for sexual favors. At this time, I was only about 10 and I was scared that I was going to lose him as a friends. I started to do these favors and for the next 6 years that was all he wanted to do. Every time we hung out or did something together, he would always want me to do these things. Eventually, around age 17, he got a girlfriend and stopped talking to me because I was of no use to him sexually. This really affected how I view myself today, and has changed my mental state as well. Him and his parents are active in the church and preach their Christian values, so for this to be something he knew was “wrong” but continued to almost force me to do is contrary to North Cost values.
The Issue of Sexual Abuse and the EFCA
This blog has remained concerned about the issue of sexual abuse inside the EFCA. That concern stems from the congregational model and the emphasis of the autonomous church. What would happen if a person engaged in abuse in an EFCA church in California and then left and relocated to Minnesota and got involved in another EFCA church. Would they be flagged? Would they be caught. This blog has deep concerns about this issue being handled responsibly inside evangelicalism. I was a whistle blower over this topic inside a Washington, D.C. mega church regarding a violent sexual offender who had access to children. You can read about that in, “The Stress of Being a Whistle Blower in a Washington, D.C. Mega Church. Plus How Did Fairfax Community Church Bully a TV Station Not to Report a Scandal? Was Loretta Rogers Cooper Responsible for that Action?” Honestly I hope this is not an issue but I believe that one should be prepared to deal with this should it arise.
When a Predator is Walking Freely at North Coast Church
Sex abuse happens in many forms. Often what people think about is the older person or the family member who abuses a person in their sphere of influence. What is not spoken about as much is the teenager or younger person who uses his position to abuse another person. In this case if this story is true, and I believe it is; you have a person who is ten to eleven years old who is using another child for sexual purposes. This continues well into high school leaving the victim to have trauma from the experience. When I read this story I found it deeply troubling. What is also means as well is that at North Coast Church today you have a high school teenager who allegedly has a history of sexual abuse walking around and being involved. This is a reason for concern and this blog is asking for other people to step forward if they are also impacted in this way. Sexual predators don’t have one person in their midst they often have multiple. And one of the issues seldom discussed in the topic of sexual abuse is child on child. In the story above a child used another child for sexual abuse. You can read more about this topic here, here and here. This is a predator at a very young age. That is what happened at North Coast Church in this situation.
So today at North Coast Church you have a teenager walking around with a history of sexual abuse. He could be babysitting within the congregation. He could interact with the mentally disabled. He could work with those who are elderly who have dementia or other such issues. This is a concerning situation and the purpose of this post is to draw attention to this matter. If anyone has more information or other stories of sexual abuse inside the young ministry at North Coast Church reach out to this blog and let’s get them told.
