Preserving the Great Commission Collective Statement on Hiring Dave Harvey

This blog post is preserving the statement from the Great Commission Collective on the hiring of Dave Harvey as its president. Another post will offer some analysis of the situation. This statement needed to be saved.

“The task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been.”

Henry Kissinger

Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.

Psalm 127:1 NIV

Dave Harvey

In February of this year, the GCC Board of Directors began a search for our first full-time President. Shortly after that, God led us to an experienced candidate with a strong passion for church planting, a proven track record of leadership, and a wise heart for shepherding pastors and churches. We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Dave Harvey as the new President of Great Commission Collective.

Dave comes commended by many as a man of personal character and high commitment to the essential values that we hold dear at GCC. He has been married to Kimm for 37 years, with four adult children and 4 grandchildren.

Dave received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Westminster Theological Seminary with an emphasis in Pastoral Care and Church Planting, and brings 33 years of ministry experience to GCC. He served as the President of Sojourn Network (2014-2018) helping to bring organizational stability and substantial growth. Before joining Sojourn, Dave served on the Leadership Team of Sovereign Grace Ministries for 17 years with responsibilities in the areas of Church Planting, Church Care and Global Expansion

In addition to his ministry in church planting networks, Dave has been committed to pastoral ministry. He was a pastor for 27 years at Covenant Fellowship Church in Pennsylvania, serving as the Lead Pastor for 19 years during which his local church planted 10 churches. He also served as the Pastor of Preaching at Four Oaks Church in Tallahassee, FL and most recently as a Teaching Pastor at Summit Church in Naples, Florida.

His passion for church leaders and pastors is also reflected in his involvement with AmICalled.com, a ministry that Dave founded to help pastors understand their calling and receive assessment and coaching in their needed areas of pastoral development. Having delegated AIC to a younger leader, Dave will be launching revdaveharvey.com.

Dave comes as an accomplished author and speaker who serves the broader Christian community. He has authored several books, including When Sinners Say I Do: Discovering the Power of the Gospel in Marriage (Shepherd’s Press) and Rescuing Ambition (Crossway 2010), and the upcoming release, I Still DO! Growing Closer and Stronger Through Life’s Defining Moments (Baker Books). Dave contributes regularly to The Gospel Coalition and Desiring God, serves on the Board of Directors for the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF), and has spoken nationally and internationally on leadership, church planting and marriage.

Dr. Harvey will begin his ministry with GCC on August 1st. Please join us in thanking God for Dave and Kimm, and pray with us that God would bear much fruit through this exciting partnership.
