Brian White of The Great Commission Collective Responds to my Request for a Statement on the Ethical Issues with Garrett Higbee

Brian White from The Great Commission Collective responded to my email asking for a statement on the situation with Garrett Higbee. You can read his email in this post. Feel free to process it and discuss below.

After writing “Will the Great Commission Collective Investigate Garrett Higbee’s Ethical Issues in Light of His Spying for James MacDonald?” I contacted Brian White of Harvest Bible Chapel North Indy. Brian leads The Great Commission Collective as its Executive Director. I asked for a statement about the issues with Garrett Higbee, and below is the email I received. I am not going to offer any commentary, what I would like to do is hear your thoughts on this response. Feel free to discuss it below.

Brian-

Good afternoon,

My name is David Bonner and I write a blog called The Wondering Eagle. The Wondering Eagle deals with atheism, doubt, Neo-Calvinism, the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) and modern evangelicalism. For the past several months I have been writing about the implosion of Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago and the issues with James MacDonald. During that time I have been approached about past issues in Biblical Soul Care and concerns expressed that confidential information in Soul Care was collected for James MacDonald. This blog was validated when Julie Roys wrote about how Garrett Higbee spied for James MacDonald. This occurred when he was the Executive Director of Biblical Soul Care at Harvest Bible Chapel.

The Wondering Eagle is requesting a statement from The Great Commission Collective, or yourself as a pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel North Indy. Will Garrett Higbee be investigated for ethical misconduct? Is The Great Commission Collective troubled that its head Pastoral Care operated in an un-ethical way on behalf of James MacDonald? I am requesting a statement by Friday May 31, 2019. I would like to publish a statement from The Great Commission Collective. In addition after May 31, I am going to publish this email as well.

Please take care, I look forward to hearing from you.

Very Respectfully,

David Bonner

  1. What a crock and blatant lack of transparency! Things that make you go hmmm…just what are they hiding?

  2. It’s really pathetic the church, which ministers PUBLiCLY and goes and recruits people from the communities to attend church are NOT transparent! Especially regarding people who are to counsel said PUBLIC members of the community at large. If any licensed counselor actively engaged on spying people and encouraging others to spy on people they would be accountable to a licensing board and would lose their license. It’s terrible that church’s circumvent laws and set up their own “counseling” programs such a soul care. Garrett Higbee was not ethical on several occasions!

  3. Sounds like a statement that James MacDonald or Rick Donald would write. Once again Harvest is flipping off the rest of the world. Once again they are saying that we don’t see an issue with the illegal, unethical, satanic worshiping actions of one Garrett Higbee

  4. So who are they accountable to? Who would they release a statement to? Any church that is part of the GCC consists of INDIVIDUALS that give financially to said church and thereby to the GCC.

So again, WHO do they answer to?

  5. I’d like to point out that to a Cold War survivor like myself, the term “Collective” carries a lot of baggage. Not that the baggage seems out-of-place in this particular application; a lot of toxic churches use the same playbook as the USSR in its heyday. And the USSR also had both a Belief System and Organizational System to defend at all costs.

When your church has a similar response to scrutiny as the RL regime Orwell used as a basis for 1984, it is not a good sign.
