A close friend from my days in Campus Crusade at Fresno State is facing a leukemia diagnosis. This post asks for people from far and wide to come to his side and lift him up in prayer and shower Eric Pauls with love.
“A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.”
“A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.”
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Isiah 40:29-31 NIV
In a medical crisis in 2017 with my Mom in Fresno, California I had some late nights around St. Agnes Hospital. During one such evening I had a close friend who came and visited me. He snuck into the hospital and brought me a drink. He was concerned with how I was weathering my Mom’s medical crisis. While sitting on a couch talking to him I was grateful for knowing Eric Pauls. I wrote him an open letter at the time expressing my gratitude for his friendship. You can read this in “An Open Letter to Eric Pauls.” The reality is that I have known Eric Pauls for 20 years now. And its with that that I ask for your help during this difficult time.
Leukemia Situation and a Request for Long Term Prayer
Eric, who is 40 to 41 is married to a wonderful wife named Michelle who teaches in the Fresno, California area. He is also the proud father of two young children. He is active in California and does triathlons which he enjoys. He is in good shape and active in his church. When I go to Fresno for Christmas time I often swing by the Butler Church. I say all this to write something that is hard to put into words. Eric is facing a leukemia situation. Currently he is in Clovis Community Hospital. He is having a bone marrow biopsy tomorrow. Can you pray for him and keep him in your thoughts? This blog has a wide reach as I see the stats, and if you are not a Christian please keep him in your thoughts and wish him well.
This is a guy that I deeply love and care for. He has an amazing faith and how I wish other Christians had his outlook. Its twenty years later and I can still remember him saying hi to me in a Campus Crusade for Christ meeting at Fresno State. From that meeting came a deep friendship and someone who I dearly love. So if people can pray for him and send any flowers or cards to the hospital that would be great. The more people who shower Eric with love whether it be from Fresno and Clovis or Chicago or elsewhere the better off he will be. This is a long term situation so please remember this long term. I will post updates as the situation changes. Eric and his family are not going to deal with leukemia alone. Let’s all come alongside him and offer support and let’s help bring him through it. Let’s show him that he is deeply loved.
