Brent Detwiler Writes About how Al Mohler Severed his Relationship with C.J. Mahaney

At his blog Brent Detwiler writes about the relationship between Al Mohler and C.J. Mahaney and how that came to an end. The expose in the Houston Chronicle about the child sex abuse issue helped bring this issue to light.

“Power is a tool, influence is a skill; one is a fist, the other a fingertip.”

Nancy Gibbs

Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good. They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.

Titus 3″1-2 NLT

C.J. Mahaney

Brent Detwiler wrote an interesting blog article that looks at how Al Mohler severed ties with C.J. Mahaney. It explains how Mahaney duped Mohler, and the allegations of child sex abuse cover-up and how C.J. Mahaney and Sovereign Grace Churches did not participate in the investigation. Its a long read but you can study it in, “The Inside Story: Al Mohler Severed All Personal Ties With C.J. Mahaney & Sovereign Grace Churches Because Mahaney Deceived Him Into Believing An “Independent Investigation” of Abuse Was Done.”  The Houston Chronicle story helped bring out the issue. This blog wants to push Brent’s story.

  1. Good morning! My name is Pia Hugo and I once worked for People of Destiny International (PDI) which later became Sovreign Grace Ministries. I worked under Larry Tomczak and indirectly under C.J. Mahaney, co-founders of PDI. For the 10 years I was a part of a PDI Church (including Abundant Life Community Church in Pasadena, CA led by then senior pastor Che Ahn), I was spiritually abused by my pastors and other spiritual leaders and made to stay in an abusive relationship with my husband who was the brother-in-law of Che Ahn. I lived a life of hell from 1986 to 1996 (my entire 20s pretty much) under these men and have lots of stories to share. I did share some of these stories with the readers of the SGM Survivors blog which I discovered in 2007. I was very relieved to finally find others who had “survived” similar ordeals under this cultic organization.
Now, in March 2019, I am ready to speak out. I wrote a book and while it is not primarily about SGM, it is meant to be a wake-up call to the Body of Christ to bring true healing, restoration and deliverance to a dying world–not to be the political and religious agency it tends to be that only seeks to condemn it. And not only that, this Church has also tended to prop up and support the perpetrators while shaming and guilt-tripping the victims into silence. My book is entitled “Four Faces of Jesus” and in it, I describe how we were called by Jesus to become more like Him…strong and powerful as an ox, courageous and bold as a lion, lovingly human and not lacking in true compassion like the Pharisees, and as free and as visionary as an eagle (based on Ezekiel’s and John’s heavenly vision of the four living creatures).
I am a public high school teacher (have been for the last 22 years). I live in the Los Angeles area and I am also a mother of four children. My husband and I are leaders now at our local church and we are part-time missionaries. We are not famous nor do we have any political or spiritual influence on the larger evangelical circles. I wrote this book not to make money or become popular. I wrote it to expose the evils of this existing Church and help to bring cleansing and healing to the true Bride of Christ. I am writing to ask for your help, Wondering Eagle. Can you tell your readers, viewers and followers about my book? Can I also send you a free copy and you can tell me what you think? I am in the final stages and the book will soon be ready for publication. Thank you so much for your consideration. Truly, Pia Hugo
