The Wondering Eagle Vertical Church Tattoo Project

In light of reports that came out of Harvest Bible Chapel in how James MacDonald allegedly used the Vertical Church tattoo to try and control people, this blog has a research project. I would like to create a database of the staff and pastors who are currently inside or once a part of Harvest Bible Chapel who got a Vertical Church tattoo. I think it will be informative to see how many people have been influenced or controlled over the years?

“People look at my tattoos, and the majority of them are religious images, so people think, ‘Oh, he must be very religious’. I respect all religions, but I’m not a deeply religious person. But I try and live life in the right way, respecting other people.”

David Beckham

“Tattoos are like stories – they’re symbolic of the important moments in your life. Sitting down, talking about where you got each tattoo and what it symbolizes, is really beautiful.”

Pamala Anderson

The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly, festering sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.

Revelation 16:2 NIV

This blog is announcing a project that I would like to do that might help people understand how James MacDonald and Harvest Bible Chapel operates. The other day this blog published a story about how James MacDonald allegedly wanted his pastors in Phoenix to get the Vertical Church tattoo on a retreat. He even offered for them to do it for free. You can read about that in, “Exploring How James MacDonald Tests Cult-Like Loyalty: The “Mark of the Beast” the Vertical Tattoo. Plus a Disturbing Situation in Phoenix, Arizona. Also how Coins are Used Inside Harvest.” Since writing that article this blog has also heard that James MacDonald has allegedly paid other individuals to get a Vertical Church tattoo. That additional information bothered me and it got me thinking. How many Harvest pastors or staff have a Vertical Church tattoo? How many pastors in Phoenix, Arizona got in line to get a tattoo and what are their names? But this issue also has other implications as well. For example did James MacDonald privately tell candidates for the XLT that in order to get into that position they needed to get a Vertical Church tattoo? This is in addition to the NDA that they had to sign. Did Fred Adams get one before he became the Chief Financial Officer for Harvest Bible Chapel? Did Scott Milholland get one? These are questions I am asking aloud. Could it be that James MacDonald did this with personal staff to see who he could control? These are questions I am asking in light of the last post I wrote.

So these are the questions I would like to ask. If you know any of these answers please let me know.

  1. Which pastors in Harvest Bible Chapel got the Vertical tattoo? When and what led them to get a tattoo?
  2. Did members of the XLT also get a Vertical tattoo? When where they asked and what let them to get a tattoo?
  3. Any other Harvest personalities get a tattoo?

Answering these questions I think can help understand more of the problem set at Harvest Bible Chapel. It will be fascinating to know if 50 to 60 Harvest Bible Chapel pastors got tattoos from 2012 to 2016. If the XLT had tattoos that could reveal as to who James selects and how people are promoted into their position. This is me just thinking aloud. In most situations I would not care about a tattoo, and I am not trying to shame or embarrass anyone. However,  after what I heard and continue to hear my interest in this topic picked up substantially. But if you know of any Harvest staff that has a Vertical tattoo please email me at wonderingeagle261@gmail.com

  1. I know of people who were not coerced in any way to get the tattoo. As in recent posts fellow human wrote “It’s a cool tattoo.” Its a valid question dealing with the people you have on here and also the rumors about it but it’s just not all true.

      • Hi Human,

I’m sure James appreciates your loyalty. And I get it since he was apparently instrumental in leading you to the Lord. (Running with the prevailing theory that you’re MM.) Just one piece of advice. Drop the “Christianaphobe” label. First of all, it’s “Christianophobe”. Secondly, it presumes that one can’t criticize or dislike James without being anti Christian. How presumptuous! James does NOT equal Christianity! JAMES doesn’t save anyone. Only Jesus can do that. And the organization know as HBC has no power to save. Again, that power belongs only to Jesus Christ. To whom do you look for your salvation? James or Jesus?

The multitudes writing blogs and articles and commenting are ALL believers in God and in our Lord Jesus Christ. Your bullying and bravado does nothing to honor God. Surely you know James well enough to know not everything he does is God-honoring?

      • I know you have mentioned this before but for me its all smoke and mirrors until the authorities, who have investigated this, bring proof that it was a cover up. I can’t go on he said she said unless there is valid proof that that is what happened. Sorry

Look at the letter to the parents posted on HBC website. Does it reveal enough to truly warn parents? No.

Nothing about same sex, nothing about dcfs, nothing about sexual exploitation, nothing about illegal.

When was it posted? Not until after the arrest. 10 months past before the vague letter was even made available to the Church.

Who got it..? 50 families? less?

The letter does clearly state that Paxton was invited to continue to worship in Aurora.

Illegal abusive behavior gets you an invite to continue to attend church?

In HBC’s response to the media, HBC called Paxton’s behavior illegal. This response is available on HBCs website as well.

None of this came out with protecting children in mind.

All of it came out after he was arrested and has been geared to protecting the brand.

The theres the letter to the parents of the basketball players.

It starts out calling Paxton “A great young man” At the time of the letter Harvest, by their own admission, knew that illegal behavior that required DCFS involvement had taken place.

What does cover up mean to you?

So many at Harvest R willing to show James the benefit of doubt..

PASTOR shoots at Elder wife pictures
PASTOR disolves fellowship in a day
PASTOR writes hbf check to Driscol’s Church
PASTOR has temper tantrum and verbally attacks students
PASTOR can’t account for 100s of thousands of $$$ at fellowship exit audit
PASTOR lies directly to ALM crowd as he secretly negotiates 2 million dollar settlement with HBF
PASTOR breaks his own rules to allow celeberty buddies to attend ALM
PASTOR uses WITW $ for deer herd

    Yeah! Its ridiculous. We know.

TONY! Do you have kids, brother?

When will you draw the line?

The proof of cover up is online at HBC’s website, in the Tribune’s article, and public record at Kane County PD.

For the sake of children and the love of God..

    Connect the dots..

  4. Here is the problem of prospective and seeing through a preconceived lens. While I am not here to suggest everything with HBC and specifically PJ’s conduct has been perfect or frankly not in need of some reorganization and rethought…I do feel the need to add prospective. When there is troubling allegations with any person or organization there is a tendency to view everything they do as nefarious.

PJ has a Harley Biker aesthetic. He owns them…HBC has a MC with vests and rockers…he dresses in Harley gear all the time. Part of that culture is to place a tattoo on yourself representing your allegiance to the club. PJ loves the VC logo…there is even a big light up sign of it on the RM church. So he got one and some people have paid to get theirs, others have been gifted with it. I know for a fact that it has never been mandatory for anyone…since I elected to not have one with no ramifications at all. Its supposed to be fun, a little edgy, a little cool and a little biker.

If there was any pressure at all it was for HBC “dorks” who want to be with the “cool kids”.

Fact check me…Dallas Jenkins has one reach out to him.

    • Wow..Im sorry to hear that..I trust The Lord has provided for you but none the less I stopped to pray for you the moment I read your reply.

I love my kids and am thankful to my father. Being a Dad is a great joy of my life.

Let me speak as a father myself. My kid was at HBC camps. I’m responsible for him. When I heard that the Leaders of a Church I once called my home had failed to warn All the parents I was shocked.

They Had failed to indicate the sexual nature of the charges

They Had failed to indicate the same sex nature of the charges

They Had failed to mention DCFS was involved.

I was concerned, angry, and disappointed in myself…that I had trusted these men with my son…with my family…

My freind called DCFS in June. Not Harvest. The info he provided was what led to the arrest. Not Harvest.

THERE ARE ALOT OF GOOD PEOPLE INVOLVED IN HARVEST’S STUDENT AND CHILDREN MINISTRIES. THEY ARE NOT THE PROBLEM.

ITS THE MEN AT THE TOP..WHO WHEN THEY LEARNED OF THE ABUSE CHARGES, FOCUSED ON DAMAGE CONTROL INSTEAD IF ACTING LIKE BIBLICAL MEN AND DOING EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER TO PROTECT OUR KIDS

ACT LIKE MEN??? HOW? BY INVITING A MAN CHARGED WITH CHILD SEX CRIMES TO CONTINUE GOING TO CHURCH WITH THE VICTIMS?

ACT LIKE MEN??? HOW? BY LABELING THE ALLEGED PRED ” A GREAT YOUNG MAN ” IN PARENT COMMUNICATIONS?

ACT LIKE MEN??? HOW? BY FILING A LAWSUIT THE DAY BEFORE THE “GREAT YOUNG MAN” IS ARRESTED FOR CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION?

You’re right. The authorities have yet to bring charges. That’s not going to stop me from bringing charges as a Christian Father and it shouldnt stop you or any1 else from connecting the dots.

      • All of the Christian-ese wordsmithing that HBC has done in this situation… and all of their other situations, for that matter… reveals HBC’s truest intent, which has been to protect the brand at all costs. At the cost of the leaderships integrity, first and foremost.

Singer’s case is horrifying, but it could happen that out of the thousands of employees for a megachurch over time, one person with enslaved by deep secret darkness slips by. That person might not even have a record, no signs of a problem, and the church might have a solid process and accountability. It’s possible. The church might truly have no fault, even if the church has a lot of responsibility to the victims of the abuse. Just be transparent about it.

Any megachurch wants to have large-scale public influence, and with that means wider scrutiny. If a case like this happens, it will be in the news. It’s virtually unavoidable. The only way you could destroy your church is if you try to hide it from the public, and worse yet, from your congregation. Not telling people who came into contact with the predator, cloaking important details in secrecy, assuming the predator only abused the one victim that the church knows about… that’s the outrageous problem with regard to HBC here.
