Shaun McDonnell on Twitter About James MacDonald and Harvest Bible Chapel Orlando and Harvest Bible Chapel Winter Garden

On Twitter this afternoon Shaun McDonnell told a story in a series of tweets. It is about how James MacDonald would not support Harvest Bible Chapel Orlando and supported the launch of Harvest Bible Chapel Winter Garden. What happened you ask? Orlando’s elders removed their senior pastor. For James, Scott Pierre and his family foundation  remained one of his biggest financial supporters having given at least $35 million dollars to his ministries over a ten year period.

“Please repent of impugning my character by leading your congregation to believe that my complaint regarding your conduct is sourced in my friendship w Scott and his being my biggest financial supporter – (he is not in the top 50 in any of the past 10 years as he has poured himself into hbco) simply false and evil.”

First paragraph of James MacDonald’s letter to the elder board at Harvest Bible Chapel Orlando.

“Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.”

Erich Fromm

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

On Twitter this afternoon there was an interesting thread by Shaun McDonnell that dealt with Harvest Bible Chapel Orlando. It raises a lot of questions about James MacDonald and his priorities. After World magazine published a story about James MacDonald and Harvest Bible Chapel that looked at alleged financial misconduct and abuse, Shaun decided it was time to share what happened at Harvest Bible Chapel Orlando. If I am reading this correctly it led to the closure of Harvest Bible Chapel Orlando and the birth of Harvest Bible Chapel Winter Garden which also is in Florida. The former pastor of Orlando Scott Pierre now leads Winter Garden in Florida. Its the story of James MacDonald abandoning Harvest Bible Chapel Orlando because the elders voted to remove one of James biggest financial supporters which also happened to be their pastor.  How big you ask? Well according to Shaun McDonnell, Scott Pierre and his family foundation gave at least $35 million to James MacDonald’s ministries over a ten year period. What is also interesting is what Harvest Bible Chapel says about Orlando in the elder update of May 21, 2016. Here is what Harvest said about Orlando.

“In our last two meetings we were briefed by Kent Shaw and Pastor Rick about a relational conflict that led the Elders of HBC Orlando to separate from their Senior Pastor Scott Pierre.  The Elders of HBCO are men unknown to HBF and they revealed none of their concerns when Pastor James met with them in January 2016.  HBF found them initially circumspect but in the end unwilling to own their own contribution to this relational breakdown. For this reason and because Scott Pierre has been continuously humble and reflective on his own faults in the matter, HBF made the difficult decision (after many letters and conversations that yielded no progress) to stand with Scott in this needless parting and inform HBCO that they would not be part of HBF going forward. The Elders of this church are within the parameters of their own authority and accountability to the Lord and because we were unable to influence their thinking, felt it best to respect this churches self governance and release the responsibility for their churches future entirely to the Elders and congregation.”

Here is what you need to know about James MacDonald, in the end James is in ministry for financial reasons. For him its a business and what drives him is money. James was willing to shutdown one of his own churches because he cared about money more than the Gospel. Please read the Twitter thread which I have inserted into this post. Go from the bottom up to the top. Its a troubling read and pay close attention to the letter that James MacDonald sent to the Harvest Bible Chapel Orlando elder board.
