Bill Maher frequently discusses atheism and takes on the topic of religion and the issues within. The other night he marked the 10th anniversary of his movie Religulous, and he discussed atheism and religion again. This is a brief post featuring his commentary for people to watch.
“When I was a kid I had an imaginary friend and I used to think that he went everywhere with me, and that I could talk to him and that he could hear me, and that he could grant me wishes and stuff. And then I grew up, and I stopped going to church.”
“I don’t know if God exists, but it would be better for His reputation if He didn’t.“
Protester at the Reason Rally in 2016.
When I had my faith crisis from 2009 until 2013 I discovered a lot of the atheist and secular humanist community. There are a lot of writers, speakers and more who talk about atheism or secular humanism in a way that I appreciated. Today I still watch, listen to and read quite a bit about atheism. One of those people who I admire and respect is that of Bill Maher. Bill Maher often and frequently discusses the problems with religion. From scandals, to the lack of reason, to how it ignores science, to evangelical behavior in politics. Bill Maher speaks in a way that gets you to think through his satire. October 3 is the 10th anniversary of his movie Religulous. He mentioned the issue that existed with a number of movie theaters not showing it. This blog writer is very deeply concerned with how atheists facing discrimination. I have written posts about the topic such as, “The Issue of Christian Discrimination Against Atheists” and “An Atheist Group in Southeast Texas Takes Care of the Homeless, and in the Process Teaches Why you do not Need God to do Good.”
In a recent episode of Bill Maher he speaks about the growing rise of atheism in the United States. From 2008 to 2018 Americans who identify with non religion has grown from 16% to 26% And he also gave a passionate monologue about evangelicals and politics. You can watch this above. There is a lot to write about in the atheist and secular humanist movement and I intend to research and write about it. The challenge I have however, is the scandals in evangelicalism just keep coming. There are times I plan to write about something and a new scandal breaks. So I try and work both of them together in this blog. I saw Bill Maher’s commentary the other day and wanted to use it for a brief stand alone post. That is it, please know that you are loved!
