A brief blog post promoting an article in the Washington Post that looks at the culture inside a small SBC church in Luverne, Alabama. The article looks at evangelicals and their support for Donald Trump.

“Unless we discover actual truth, morality is up for grabs.”

My old self has been crucified with Christ.[a] It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Within the past week there was an article that looked at Christian culture that is deeply disturbing. It received a lot of attention on Twitter. This article was published in the Washington Post and looks at the culture and life inside a small Southern Baptist Church in Luverne, Alabama. The article was so shocking that I read it a couple of times over the past two days. If this is true, and I believe it is, you learn quite a bit about the culture inside one small church. For example one person believes that Hillary Clinton is of Satan. Others discuss the threat of Islam, immigrants and how blacks actually benefited from slavery as it took care of them. I had a hard time with that last part about slavery. Tomorrow I am planning on writing an open letter to Clay Crum, the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Luverne. You can read this article called, “God, President Trump and the meaning of morality.” Take care guys!

  1. Wondered when you were going to post a link to that article.

The ending is especially tragic, when the preacher is getting to “Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery” in his sermon series (i.e. “Pelvic Issues”, the only Sin(TM) Evangelicals care about), looks over his congregation, and soft-pedals it into Christianese platitudes out of fear of the “Gatekeepers”/Church Ladies with the Culture War Mark of the Trump on foreheads and right hands.

(Remind you of the situation/predicament of any burned-out country preacher we both know?)

    • Let’s not forget the way that the self righteous Christians were angered at Elvis Presley for his pelvis moves on national television. They all thought that Elvis was a pervert.

Self righteous idiots who, later in life, memorializes Elvis as KING.

  2. Just wondering if King David knew the 7th Commandment.

DId God remove him from being King?

What was Bathsheba’s VICTIM impact statement?

Oh wait, she married David…that’s right.
