Does Mark Mullery’s Redeeming Grace Church Fairfax Confirm What the Chinese Communist Party Says About Religion Contributing to Corruption?

In August of 2017 a Chinese exchange student at George Mason University involved in Mark Mullery’s Redeeming Grace Church Fairfax shared his testimony at church on a Sunday morning. The church uploaded it to You Tube. This post looks at the crackdown on corruption in China, which is attributed to religion according to the Chinese’s People’s Daily and asks a question. Is a church that is being dogged by allegations of child sex abuse cover up validating what the Chinese government states about corruption coming from religion?

“Some officials are superstitious and ignore party discipline. In reality, some officials often go to monasteries, pray to God and worship Buddha,” the paper said. “Some cadres are obsessed with fraternising with the masters, becoming their lackeys and their cash cows.”

The Irish Times of October 12, 2017.

“Corruption is worse than prostitution. The latter might endanger the morals of an individual, the former invariably endangers the morals of the entire country.”

Karl Kraus

“Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.

Matthew 7:15 NLT

Chinese foreign exchange student’s testimony at Redeeming Grace Church Fairfax on August 13, 2017. I also have a screen shot of this video as well which I put aside.

In doing analysis its best to study religion or fundamentalism from many different perspectives. I do that by often going through a church’s social media. Today’s post came from studying the You Tube channel or Mark Mullery’s Redeeming Grace Church in Fairfax, Virginia. This former Sovereign Grace church has changed its name probably because of the lawsuit it has faced for allegations of covering up child sex abuse. You can read the other articles I have written about Mark Mullery’s church in, “Cornerstone’s Bill Kynes Preaching at Redeeming Grace Church (Formerly Sovereign Grace Fairfax) Illustrates How Corrupt Churches are Kept Afloat” , “Sinfully Craving a New Church Name? Sovereign Grace Fairfax Becomes Redeeming Grace Church” and “Redeeming Grace Church’s Kenneth Maresco’s Selective Memory. There was something that caught my eye and it came about because I am well read and pay attention to the news and foreign policy by scanning the news. But before I get into that let’s look at the relationship between Redeeming Grace Church and nearby George Mason University.

Redeeming Grace Church Fairfax and George Mason University

George Mason University is a school that is based in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. George Mason in my opinion doesn’t get the attention or recognition that it should. Usually Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia are well known. George Mason  became independent in 1972. Prior to that is was a branch of the University of Virginia. This university has also produced two winners of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics. Today there are over 35,000 students enrolled in this public university. That breaks down to 24,149 undergraduate and 10, 358 graduate. George Mason also has a large number of exchange students from other countries. International students make up 4.4% of the student body and come from 108 countries. George Mason University is exceptionally popular with Chinese foreign exchange students from China. Chinese students can make up as much as 2.3% of the entire student body. They make up as much as 31.3% of the international student body. From 2011 until 2016 the number of foreign exchange students from China has grown from 137 students to 770 students.

No doubt ministries such as Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ), Inter-varsity Christian Fellowship and the college ministry of Redeeming Grace Church know this information. Redeeming Grace Church apparently has a close relationship with Brett and Krista Miller’s George Mason Cru. And Redeeming Grace Church’s College and Career also works the campus. Mike Yang a non-staff elder from Mark Mullery’s church helps run the program as well as Kristo Voda who is a ministry intern. Voda who was born in Albania and lived in Greece immigrated to the United States in 2009. He has been involved in Redeeming Grace Church for the past four years. On the church website they talk about their relationship with some of the para-church ministries. The foreign exchange student who got involved in Redeeming Grace Church is involved in both its College and Career Ministry as well as Brett Miller’s Cru. This is not the first time I have written about Brett Miller, you can read more in, “Why Does Cru at George Mason University Recommend Sovereign Grace Fairfax? Is that Wise?” This foreign exchange student is from Zhengzhou, China. Zhengzhou is the Provincial Capitol from Henan Province in China. Zhengzhou is a cultural center of China and also an economic, political and transportation hub. Henan Province has a population of 95 million and Zhengzhou has a population of 9.5 million people. In researching the foreign exchange student it appears as if he was lured by food. That is something I want to touch on below, but its deeply manipulative and I wonder if Redeeming Grace Church plays on people’s emotions and like a vulture preys on people who are exchange students. In researching Redeeming Grace Church’s I could see that there was a big push for membership, which would no doubt be a membership covenant. The Chinese Communist Government Crackdown on Corruption and its Attribution to Religion in Mainland China

Transparency International is an international non-governmental organization based in Berlin, Germany. It was founded in 1993 and monitors corruption worldwide. It maintains and updates the Corruptions Perception Index. The non-governmental organization arrives at its conclusions on perceived  state corruption based off interactions by businessman and others with the government. China has long struggled with corruption and there are concerns that its corruption will discourage foreign business from investing or off-sourcing to the Chinese mainland. According Transparency International’s Corruptions Perception Index China has ranked 77 out of 180 countries. 180 is the worst and that is held by the failed state of Somalia. The least corrupt countries are New Zealand, northern Europe and Singapore. Chinese President Xi Jingping has struggled with combating Chinese corruption. If you want to read more you can do so here, and here. However, the Chinese government has renewed crackdowns on corruption.

Recently The Peoples Daily has drawn attention to the corruption issue and has raised the issue of religion. The Peoples Daily is the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party. The newspaper explains and touts the Communist Party line within China. In 2017 the People’s Daily asked this question in the wake of the situation of Li Chuncheng. Li, a former deputy party chief in Sichuan who was jailed for 13 years in 2015 for bribery and abuse of power. The issue is superstition I believe.  The Communist newspaper has warned cadres and Communists from praying to God or participating in religion. That includes the spectrum of the Judeo-Christian God to worshiping Buddha, Islam or even superstition.  The newspaper attributes religion to cause people to be corrupt. Here is a quote from the Irish Times article called, “Chinese communists must be wary of religion, party newspaper warns.”

Citing the quote from Karl Marx – “Communism begins where atheism begins” – the newspaper proceeded to list some examples where communist stalwarts were brought low by religious fervour.

“Some officials are superstitious and ignore party discipline. In reality, some officials often go to monasteries, pray to God and worship Buddha,” the paper said. “Some cadres are obsessed with fraternising with the masters, becoming their lackeys and their cash cows.”

The South China Morning Post also reported on this development as well. You can read that article in “Chinese state mouthpiece links ‘superstitious’ religious practices to string of Communist Party corruption scandals.”

Mark Mullery’s Redeeming Grace Church Fairfax Being Dogged by Criminal Allegations of Child Sex Abuse Cover-Up

Mark Mullery’s Redeeming Grace Church Fairfax has been dogged by allegations of child sex abuse cover up. The church changed its name became of the Sovereign Grace lawsuit well over a year ago. In this former Sovereign Grace church people were allegedly discouraged from going to the Fairfax police and the church tried to handle everything internal. This is a church that is very focused on its image and has strongly denied the criminal allegations. You can read the stories in the following post, that of Happymom and Wallice, Noel, Set Free, and Taylor. In Noel’s case the church tried to get her to drop the charges on the teenager who allegedly molested her three year old daughter. The church pressured her repeatedly not to report it but she finally did. The church culture prevented her from talking about it as it would be called “gossip. ” Noel allegedly corrupted with the court against the will of Mark Mullery. That came through when Noel read a 6 page statement in court, and in the process angered Mark Mullery. Then there is also Taylor’s story which is deeply disturbing. Taylor’s husband was allegedly sexually abusing his 10 year old daughter. When she confronted her husband he fell on his knees and begged for her not to report it. He fled, and she didn’t know if he was dead or not. Sovereign Grace Fairfax praised Taylor and said that by not reporting it to law enforcement, she had been “Godly.” In the course of time it was also learned that Taylor’s husband was allegedly into child pornography as well.  In time Taylor’s husband moved back into his home, and Sovereign Grace Fairfax eventually counseled Taylor to place a lock on her child’s door that could be locked on the inside. This supposedly would prevent Taylor’s husband from being able to get inside his daughter’s bedroom and sexually abuse her. Plus the church advised Taylor that she had to have more sex with her husband. Her husband had sexual needs and by having more sex with him that could prevent her child from being sexually abused. Thus, like a good covenant church member she submitted to the point of almost wanting to vomit after each sexual encounter. This was the church that Mark Mullery allegedly ran. When Mark Mullery’s Church Validates what the Chinese Communist Party Says About Religion Being Corrupt

When I saw the testimony of the George Mason student at Redeeming Grace Church in Fairfax I felt sick. I debated about writing this post for a while but then decided that this topic should be explored. If this could prevent other foreign exchange students from getting involved or make George Mason University aware of these problems then it is worth it. Does George Mason know of the allegations of sexual abuse cover-up at Mark Mullery’s church? Also I am an alumnus of Cru and worked hard at planting a Crusade chapter at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am sick that Brett Miller would send his students over to Mark Mullery’s church. Brett Miller is living proof that Mark Noll’s Scandal of the Evangelical Mind is true. A Cru leader who can’t discern between a church mired in sexual abuse allegations vs. another church, and then encourages his students to attend Redeeming Grace, is a man who should not be in a position of leadership. Brett Miller is a failure as a leader.  He is an epic fail.

Here is where I want to tie this all together. Up above I researched and wrote about what the Chinese Communist Party’s newspaper said about religion and corruption. Is Mark Mullery’s Redeeming Grace Church validating and proving what The Peoples’ Daily is saying? After all Redeeming Grace is corrupting people as a part of its modus operandi. Could Chinese foreign exchange students be put at needless risk for a corrupt “Gospel?” A “Gospel” of criminal allegations, alleged sex abuse, rejecting local law enforcement and more?  A church that is nothing more than a cult? Could The Chinese government use this one foreign exchange student as a means to justify its concerns about allowing exchange student to come to George Mason? If this Chinese foreign exchange student was later questioned by the Chinese government later on, what would he say? Would he would defend a church where the pastor told a wife that she should have more sex with her husband to keep him from sexually abusing her daughter? Man, I can’t wait for that to be a front page story on The People’s Daily! To Mark Mullery, Mike Yang, Brett Miller, and Kristo Voda I want to congratulate you. You made the Christian faith worthless be defending and perpetuating a church that is mired in allegations of criminal activity. The fact that Redeeming Grace Church is what a foreigner from mainland China is being introduced to is deeply sickening. This is a good illustration as to why Mark Mullery’s church needs to be shut down and turned into a parking lot. Brett Miller, Mike Yang, and Kristo Voda do you want to bring honor to the Lord? Do you want to honor scripture? Do you want to be Biblical in your frame of mind? Then pay a demolition company to drive a bulldozer through Redeeming Grace Church. There is much more about Redeeming Grace as well as George Mason Cru that The Wondering Eagle plans to write about in time. I am going to email this post to the International Student Department at George Mason University to make them aware of what is on campus. That is it for the day guys, know that I love you.
