The Village Church which is led by Matt Chandler is promoting Bryan Loritts material on the church’s website. Bryan Loritts was a teaching pastor at Fellowship Memphis, in which a dark scandal took place in which I believe child pornography was allegedly manufactured. Does Matt Chandler get that child pornography is illegal and a crime? Especially in light of the Jordan Root scandal which took place at The Village Church in 2015? Why would one church that dealt with this issue promote material from a pastor that was allegedly involved in the cover up at another church?
“Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense.”
“Common sense is not so common.”
Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseerdesires a noble task. 2 Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full[a] respect. 5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?) 6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. 7 He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.
1 Timothy 3:1-7 NIV
Does Bryan Loritts meet these qualifications?
This is a post I have wanted to do for a while especially since I have been writing about John Bryson’s Fellowship Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee. I saw this on the website of The Village Church and needed to address this problem.
Bryan Loritts is Being Featured on The Village Church Website
Bryan Loritts was formerly the pastor at Fellowship Memphis. He was the brother-in-law to Rick Trotter. Rick Trotter was the worship pastor of Fellowship Memphis. Rick Trotter was also into voyeurism. He recorded family members in Bryan Loritts own house. Bryan had banned him form his own house, but he had no problem helping Rick Trotter get on staff at Richard Rieves Downtown Church. You can read about the Fellowship Memphis scandal in these two posts. “Why Would Bryan Loritts Allegedly Ban Rick Trotter from his House and yet Encourage him to go to Richard Rieves Downtown Church?” and “The Sordid Tale of Rick Trotter, Bryan Loritts, John Bryson and Acts 29 Fellowship Memphis and Downtown Presbyterian Church.” Bryan Loritts, who I consider to be nothing but a Jonah in how he flees, just keeps running and running. Today he is at Abundant Life Church in Silicon Valley, California. His theme that he writes about is racial reconciliation. While I believe racism is a problem in the United States, I would also say that Bryan is profiting off of racial tension. But in addition to that why is he teaching or being promoted given his role in the Fellowship Memphis scandal? Matt Chandler’s The Village Church is promoting Bryan Loritts material material in two posts. Those posts are “Practical Ways to Pursue Racial Reconciliation” and “How the Gospel is Our Only Hope for Racial Reconciliation.”
Has Matt Chandler Learned from the Jordan Root Situation?
Matt Chandler’s church was the subject of a very dark scandal a few years ago. In the scandal Karen Root discovered that her husband Jordan Root was addicted to child pornography. They were evacuated from a missions field in Asia and Jordan was terminated. They went back to The Village Church and Jordan was declared to be “walking in repentance.” Karen filed an annulment from Jordan and ended her marriage. She faced church discipline and even while going back to North Carolina The Village Church tried to place her under their authority. If you want to read more as well as all the posts that I wrote about the situation you can do so in “Has Matt Chandler’s The Village Church Recovered from the Karen Hinkley/Jordan Root Scandal?”
The Village Church scandal happened in 2015. In the end The Village Church backed down. Matt Chandler said he got it, and that he apologized. Matt Chandler also allegedly said that with Jordan Root those who had similar problems would be dealt with in an appropriate manner. This was all in 2015. So here we are toward the end of 2017 and what do we see on The Village Church’s website? Matt Chandler’s church is promoting another church involved in a dark and nefarious scandal that also allegedly dealt with child pornography. So here is the question…does Matt Chandler get it? Does Matt Chandler realize that child pornography is illegal? After the Jordan Root situation why would The Village Church promote Bryan Loritts in light of the scandal and alleged illegal sexual crimes that were committed. After all Rick Trotter is now being processed by the legal system. You can read an update on that situation in “Acts 29 Fellowship Memphis Update: Rick Trotter is Indicted for Unlawfully Recording Women at Richard Rieves Downtown Church; Plus Memphis Second Presbyterian Pastor Sandy Willson who was Warned about Rick Trotter has Retired.”
I have to say that this disappoints me deeply. Does the good old boy network triumph against laws and doing the right thing? Today I say that The Village Church is incapable of change or doing the right thing. If I were in The Village Church I would run for the doors and I would not look back. I would be concerned about family and friends in that place. I would avoid Matt Chandler’s church as it is not healthy at all. If anyone has any stories or experiences at The Village Church, The Wondering Eagle will gladly tell them. That is it for the day, this is a short post but one that I have been meaning to do for a while. Take care of yourselves, and remember if you are in The Village Church I am on your side and am happy to help.
