Practicing Discernment: Faith Evangelical Free in Dallas, Oregon’s Church Vision Statement

A discernment post that comes from the Evangelical Free Church of America in the Pacific Northwest. This is the church vision statement from Faith Evangelical Free in Dallas, Oregon. Study this and ask yourself…would you get involved? Why or why not?

“Intelligence is something we are born with. Thinking is a skill that must be learned.

Edward De Bono

“To live is to think.”

Marcus Cicero

That very night the believers sent Paul and Silas to Berea. When they arrived there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11 And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth. 12 As a result, many Jews believed, as did many of the prominent Greek women and men.

Acts 17:10-12

Today I have another church for you to practice discernment. The point of these posts is to get people to think critically and ask hard questions. When you look at a church website what do you see? Would you recommend it? Would you show up? Is this okay or does this have problems? The point of these posts is not to tear down, instead its to get people to challenge and think about what they see. Faith Evangelical Free is an Evangelical Free in Dallas, Oregon. The lead pastor is Derek Olson. Study this church vision statement. What are your thoughts? Is this good? Does this church have problems. Look this over and reflect on it. That is it for the day guys!

On August 28, 1963 the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., gave his most famous speech entitled “I Have a Dream”. The articulation of Dr. King’s vision of the future galvanized the civil rights movement into one of the most powerful political forces in American history.

Dreams are powerful motivators helping us achieve goals that might lay dormant if they were not united to a compelling vision.

In the context of ministry we believe the Lord still gives dreams to His people through the leaders of His church. We as a group of committed believers have a vision to empower a church family that’s so passionately devoted to the Lord it will draw, direct, develop, and deploy people for the cause of Christ.

Yes we do have a dream!

It’s a dream to have all of our ministries driven by a contagious devotion to Christ.

It’s a dream to draw the lost so they will enjoy an eternal friendship with the God of creation.

It’s a dream to direct people so their faith will be a source of encouragement and strength throughout their lives.

It’s a dream to develop people so they will become excellent leaders for the cause of Christ.

It’s a dream to deploy people into ministries appropriate to their gifts and calling from the Lord.

Our dream is to help people become the disciples God wants them to be!
What does this dream mean for me?

This dream will encourage you to develop a lifestyle of love for the Lord that engages you in contagious worship so you will be able to magnify the Lord in all you do.

This dream will unite you in membership to a group of believers who care for each other and for all those who have no personal knowledge of Jesus Christ.

This dream will motivate you to become a mature believer in Christ who knows how to live out their faith in the day to day world.

This dream will empower you to achieve more success in ministry than you ever thought possible.

This dream will maximize your gifts and calling from God so that you will fulfill God’s mission for your life.

Don’t miss this dream for your life!
