Community Evangelical Free Church Wants to Separate from the Evangelical Free Church of America

Steve Estes Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson, Pennsylvania wants to separate from the EFCA. The EFCA has been working hard to resolve the issues in Elverson, but Steve Estes and the leadership are challenging Minneapolis and the District leadership. The seminal moment thus far occurred with the December 4, 2016 business meeting and letter  that was dropped off at Hurit’s house. In the process Steve Estes and the Stoltzfus leadership allegedly blindsided the EFCA denomination.

“The duty of youth is to challenge corruption.”

Kurt Cobain

“The fight for justice against corruption is never easy. It never has been and never will be. It exacts a toll on our self, our families, our friends, and especially our children. In the end, I believe, as in my case, the price we pay is well worth holding on to our dignity.”

Frank Serpico

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Matthew 5:14-16 NLT

Does this verse from scripture apply? Are the “good deeds” coming out of Steve Estes church reflect well on the Christian community?

The Wondering Eagle is coming up on the first anniversary of starting to write about Steve Estes and Community Evangelical Free Church  on March 6, 2017. Over 50 articles about this deeply corrupt Evangelical Free church have been written. If you are not familiar with the story, this is a quick synopsis. Brock Estes allegedly raped his wife and pointed a loaded gun at her. When Hurit was tired of the alleged domestic abuse she filed for divorce. Then Steve Estes, the Senior Pastor, coached the church through practicing church discipline on his ex daughter-in-law. Steve Estes allegedly did this to preserve Brock’s job at the Berks County Jail, and also his as well. If you want to read the entire story in detail I will direct you to “Steve Estes and Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson, Pennsylvania: A Painful Story of Domestic Abuse, Inappropriate Church Discipline, and Failed EFCA Polity.” Plus there is also Hurit’s Public Excommunication While Alleged Criminal Activity by Brock Estes is Withheld from the Congregation: Appeals for Help Fall on Deaf Ears to Steve Musser of the Eastern District and National Evangelical Free Church of America. There is a lot of ground to cover and if I make any mistakes in what is said below, then I invite correction. There is a lot of conflicting information that I had to wrestle with in putting this post together.

Behind the Scenes at the EFCA

Eddie Cole became the Superintendent of the Eastern District shortly before the situation at Community Evangelical Free Church spilled out onto the internet. Previously Eddie was the Senior Pastor at Salem Church in Staten Island. Eddie inherited a difficult situation and I believe Eddie reached out to the EFCA in Minneapolis for help in dealing with this problem. That is how Greg Strand got into the picture. For those of you who do not know Greg Strand directs the EFCA’s Biblical Theology and Credentialing. In addition I believe Greg Strand overseas the EFCA Theology Conference which just took place at Trinity International University. I actually wrote about this conference in “An Overview of The Evangelical Free Church of America’s (EFCA) Theological Conference – The Reformation at 500: Also with Al Mohler Being One of the Main Speakers Does the EFCA Believe Child Sex Abuse is a Joke?” According to multiple sources in Elverson its my understanding that the EFCA put together a fact finding committee that consisted of 5 people to look into the situation with Steve Estes church. This committee met with former members of Community Evangelical Free Church. Then they met with Brock Estes and finally Steve Estes and the Elverson church Elders. This fact finding committee met with the leadership of Community Evangelical Free multiple times in trying to understand what happened. In the process it is also my understanding that Eddie Cole humbly approached the family of Hurit and apologized for what happened. What would happen over the year is that Eddie Cole, Greg Strand and the EFCA poured a lot of time, money and effort in trying to fix this situation. I will go into more detail below but the communities of Elverson and Morgantown should know that the EFCA worked hard in trying to fix the situation.

It is my belief that the EFCA after investigating the situation determined that Steve Estes church is in the wrong. And that the practice of church discipline on an alleged rape victim was inconsistent with the values of the EFCA.  A list of about 14 recommendations were presented to the leadership of Steve Estes church. One of them was for the church to hold a repentance service in the community of Elverson. The EFCA wanted Steve Estes church to hold a repentance service that would be open to former CEFC members, Hurit’s family, and the community. Both Eddie Cole and Greg Strand realized how controversial this church discipline became and how the fabric of the community was being torn. They allegedly wanted a repentance service to take place so that the community of Elverson and Morgantown can heal, and that the community can find peace. In the mind of Steve Estes, Merle and Dave Stoltzfus that was not meant to be. What allegedly happened next was profoundly disturbing and revealed that Community Evangelical Free is a rogue church inside the denomination.

December 4, 2016 Business Meeting

Prior to the December 4th service Steve Estes and the leadership were allegedly telling Community Evangelical Free Church a different story. They proclaimed that the EFCA had a problem with their version of end times theology. Allegedly the leadership was intentionally misleading the congregation about what the EFCA was saying.  The Elder Board allegedly refused to take questions for the business meeting,  and they had to be submitted in writing before hand. This blog published three sets of questions for members of Community Evangelical Free to consider. You can read those here, here and here. At the business meeting its my understanding that Steve Estes preached and explained why his church must take a hard line on divorce. I heard from a couple of sources that before the meeting certain members of the congregation were going to challenge the leadership on their version of events. In the end no one challenged them. But its my understanding that 2 members walked out of the business meeting.  Around this time, but I am not certain if this happened at the business meeting, the Elder Board voted to rescind Hurit’s excommunication. They freed members of the Free Church in Elverson to engage with Hurit again. This was announced at this business meeting. In the process both through the business meeting and what would happen the following morning the leadership of the EFCA denomination would allegedly be blindsided by Steve Estes.

A Cold Letter Written by Steve Estes?

On Monday December 6, 2016 Doug Mountiz showed up at Hurit’s house at 7:30 in the morning and dropped off a letter addressed to Hurit. This one page letter was incredibly cold from my understanding. In that letter Community Evangelical Free said that over two years had passed since Hurit was placed under church discipline. It said that the case of church discipline  was complicated due to family connections in the church. The goal of rescinding the excommunication of Hurit was to help preserve the church which was being torn apart in two. The letter did not apologize to Hurit or her family for what Steve Estes church did. Instead they were releasing Hurit from church discipline in order to preserve the church. The church refused to admit that is was wrong. Its also my understanding that the Community Evangelical Free church still believes that Hurit did not have Biblical grounds for divorce. Also the letter from what I heard declared that that there would be no formal service of restoration. Next the letter also declared that Hurit is no longer under church discipline. Finally the letter closed out saying that if Hurit had any questions she could contact Al Kimball

The tone, flow, and language used in this letter left many with the opinion that Steve Estes authored this letter. It was like the letter that Brock read at Hurit’s excommunication service. At that service many people believe that Steve wrote that letter and had Brock read it, as it was similar. This letter combined with the business meeting revealed that Steve Estes church had jumped the gun. This was done without the knowledge of the EFCA leadership in Minneapolis, or the Eastern District. Allegedly when the EFCA leadership in Minneapolis saw the letter that Doug Mountiz dropped off they were horrified. This letter I believe led to increased tension between Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson and the national EFCA denomination. The EFCA was uninvited by Community leadership and were blindsided and its my understanding that they were surprised that Elverson behaved this way. With that it was realized that this is an Elder Ruled church and not an Elder Led, which is how the EFCA operates. There is another question that needs to be asked. When this letter went out did Al Kimball know that his name was at the bottom of the letter in the understanding of “for further information please contact Al Kimball?” It is my belief that Al did not know this was happening. It also begs the following question…does Al Kimball realize that he is a tool of Steve Estes?  Community Evangelical Free Church has allegedly notified the EFCA that they intend to break away from the denomination. There are a lot of challenges that exist which I will get into below. There is talk in Elverson that Community Evangelical Free Church has been removed from the denomination. As of February 27, they are still listed on the EFCA Church Locator.

Analysis and Challenges That Remain

I believe that the EFCA has finally come to understand the challenges that face this rogue church. They realize the problems and issues that exist. Some of the sources I have spoken to finally feel validated that the EFCA is taking this situation seriously. Having said all that there are three main challenges that remain for the denomination and this rogue elder ruled Evangelical Free Church to wrestle with.

The first issue is that of the communication challenges that currently exist. The EFCA embraces the congregational model which does have its challenges. In a healthy relationship the information flows down from Minneapolis, to the district and then to the church who disseminates the information to the congregation. In this situation the leadership in Elverson is allegedly rejecting both the advice and leadership of the EFCA from either Eddie Cole or Greg Strand in Minneapolis. So here is the problem. In one way you have people attracted to the EFCA brand, but in this case you have a rogue church that is inconsistent with the values of the denomination. So how do you keep people from joining or getting involved who do not know the challenges or issues? After what happened to Hurit, what could happen to other people in that church?  In my history, I and so many others have become involved in the EFCA because they are attracted to the brand name. That is one major challenge for the EFCA, and here is another issue. If Steve Estes as well as Merle and David Stoltzfus are going to mislead the church and tell their congregation something different how does the EFCA communicate their decisions to the congregation? How does the EFCA in Minneapolis communicate that the EFCA  the problems that exist? How does the EFCA get around Steve Estes and Dave and Merle Stoltzfus? One possibility is for the EFCA in Minneapolis to write a letter and send it to the congregation and in the process by-pass the leadership of Steve Estes and Merle and David Stoltzfus. I don’t believe that has happened before in the EFCA, and if I am mistaken then please correct me. But it is something that the EFCA should strongly consider doing.

The second outstanding issue is that of the $4 – 5 million dollar loan with the EFCA in Minneapolis. This loan is a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. Plus the loan issue has become even more complicated by the large number of members who have left. This is a rough estimate but I believe close to 125 people have left, and more are leaving. Community Evangelical Free Church just lost a deacon two weeks ago I believe. The EFCA should not have given this loan to Elverson to begin with. One thing that the EFCA must do  is tighten the lending requirements so that a similar situation will not happen again. This loan is bad policy as it is given to a church that can’t afford it. Then there is the wasteful aspect. Think of some of the other EFCA churches that could use that money? Churches that are dealing with flooding in their basement, or need a new building to become more handicap accessible. Or another way to look at it is think of the EFCA ministries that could be done in places like New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Pittsburgh or Lancaster. But if Steve Estes church breaks away from the denomination what happens to the loan? This is my personal belief but I don’t believe that Community Evangelical Free can pay it, and that they are going to be broken by the loan. Its my understanding that the church in Elverson was required to at least raise $1.5 million and that they did not meet that requirement. And if the church in Elverson just applies that $1.5 million to only interest then this church is going to be in a world of hurt in a few years down the road when it can’t make its payments. When Minneapolis approved the loan it was probably done with the belief that Steve Estes church would be a part of the EFCA for many more years. One other sad aspect is that this Evangelical Free church had been the recipient of quite a bit of money over the years. Has Steve Estes been grateful for the money that has been received? Or did Steve Estes and the Stoltzfus leadership just use the EFCA in the end?

The third challenge is the requirements in the bylaws of Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson. The bylaws require that two thirds of the congregation need to vote in the affirmative to separate from the EFCA. With the number of people who have left how is this going to be achieved? Will people in Elverson want to vote in the affirmative and separate when they realize they have been lied to by Steve Estes? With the bylaw requirements how do they get around that challenge? I honestly don’t know how that will be handled. But its a serious obstacle for CEFC to overcome. The question is can they?

There is another problem as well as since Community Evangelical Free Elverson and the EFCA are eventually parting ways. This church was incorporated in the 1970’s as a part of the EFCA denomination through the Eastern District. This church in all likelihood is going to have to reincorporate their property, name, business materials, etc… That is not going to be cheap. But since they want to break away from the denomination they are going to be required to do it. What I predict is going to happen is that at the next business meeting Steve Estes is going to go before those who remain and say that Elverson no longer wants to be a part of the EFCA. Its my belief that Steve and the leadership will manufacture some reason to try and say, “we need to break away.” This church leadership is going to continue to mislead those who are members. Also remember Steve still teaches practical theology at Westminster Theological Seminary and is still on the board of Christian Counseling and Education Foundation. That continues to deserve scrutiny as well.

I will be writing about this in the next few days but one thing that needs to be highlighted is that the communities of Elverson and Morgantown need to understand the time and effort Eddie Cole poured into this problem set. When Community Evangelical Free rebuffed the District leadership Eddie rolled up his sleeves and went back to work and tried, and worked with, and got support from Minneapolis in dealing with this church. People flew out from Minneapolis in trying to work with this church and resolve this issue. In the end the problem will be not the EFCA leadership either in Minneapolis or the District. The problem remains with Steve Estes. So its my sincere hope that the community will communicate to Eddie their thanks and appreciation for his efforts. Again it wasn’t due to a lack of effort, these problems exist because of the leadership of Steve Estes. Speaking of Steve Estes its my understanding that the EFCA would not certify him as a pastor. If anyone knows why that happened could you please post the answer below? This situation is profoundly sad. The opportunities that have been lost to fix and resolve this have been disturbing. The church leadership could have righted this wrong at any time, and they still can. Its still my belief that Steve Estes needs to resign. I plan to write a post in a few days about that in further detail. That is the latest of what has happened in Elverson. There are going to be a few more posts that will be written about this situation, again please be patient as I deal with all the information. One final note…for those who are interested Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson is holding their annual dinner and square dance on March 4, 2017. It costs $25.00 for anyone who would like to attend. Again guys please know that I love you.

  1. Why has every member of that congregation not been privy to have a copy of this last letter that CEFC sent to her in Dec. 2016, when every member was mailed a copy of every previous letter they sent her? Some have read it and some have not. Why? What are they trying to further hide? Ask Steve Estes for a copy of it.

When you do read it (however you get it) you will read that they were very clear to her that the purpose of rescinding was not with intention to restore HER…but THEMSELVES. Controlling and manipulative still, even in their rescinding. It’s void of humility from your senior pastor that should have culminated with an apology. It also states that they are now “freeing members to relate to her as their conscience leads them”. What makes them or the members think the church leadership was ever in charge of their own good conscience toward ANYONE to begin with? I do believe that is what cults do. Is this what the Amish do?

If you still attend this church what holds you back from contacting the representatives of the denomination you are part of, Evangelical Free Church of America, and asking them what the discrepancies have been and currently are with CEFC?

  3. Question: If the Elverson church can not pay off the loan, does the EFCA have the legal right to take possession of the church property/properties, similar to a bank foreclosure? I wonder what the stipulations are in the loan contract?
IMO, CEFC should not only separate from the EFCA’ it should separate from church altogether! How can they call that place a church with a clear conscious?

  4. My opinion — the Stoltzfuses would never let that happen. They are both very wealthy and would probably pay it off so the “so called” church stays under their control.

  5. Steve Estes Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson, Pennsylvania wants to separate from the EFCA. The EFCA has been working hard to resolve the issues in Elverson, but Steve Estes and the leadership are challenging Minneapolis and the District leadership.

Like Jimmy Swaggart and Ted Haggard, the instant the denominational authorities say or do anything the ManaGAWD doesn’t like, the MoG splits his church off from the denom and/or plants a new one.

  7. For whatever reason, you continue to insult the good people of the church I attend. Apparently 400+ people are not as smart as you. Supposedly we blindly follow the leadership of an alleged despot and his cronies. Perhaps the real story is something that doesn’t fit so neatly in your narrative. From what I can tell, your narrative is: Calvinists are bad and women are victims, oh, and your friend “Andrew White” lied about you.
Very little about your post is true. Names are incorrect, financial problems are bogus and events described are inaccurate. Anyone who attended what you call the “business meeting” can attest to that.
What we have here is what journalist Chris Weigant, a Huffington Post contributor calls “The Big Lie.” I’m sure you have heard of it. Mr. Weigant writes, “The basic idea is an easy one to grasp: believe the hype, not the facts. Repeat a falsehood enough times, and a whole bunch of people start to believe it. Once they do, proving it wrong using facts just doesn’t seem to work.” You, David Bonner, are believing The Big Lie.

    • XJN why don’t you just call Eddie Cole, the Eastern District director of your denomination and ask him to share with you a copy of the letter they sent to your elder board denouncing their actions and how they handles this situation. And while you are on the phone also ask him for a copy of, or synopsis of, the letter they sent to the parents of Hurit, in which they made clear their stance was apologetic, and in contrast to the letter CEFC sent their daughter just 3 months ago.

      • I apologize if I led you to believe that I was interested in adding to your understanding of this story. If you are a member of CEFC and attended the congregational meeting in December then you heard first hand from the elders. If you are not, then I can’t help you. Life is too short to feed, water and cultivate a root of bitterness. Find a good church. Read the scriptures daily. Pray. Serve “the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.” (Acts 20:28). Lord have mercy on the souls of those who take lightly the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ.

      • XJN if you are not interested in “adding to our understanding of this story”, we can only assume that we are right about CEFC. Even EFCA, your ex-mother church organization, agrees with us also.

You are the kind of churches that strongly believes in discipline. You are the kind of churches that enjoys exposing member’s sins into public and then “expel the wicked person from among you”. You delight in these kind of judgement and condemnation.

But now you want to isolate yourself in your sin? Your church, CEFC, thinks it can just sin however it wants without getting disciplined. So you refused discipline from EFCA. And you also refused discipline from the greater Universal church?

You have to understand that not a single church outside of CEFC will agree with you. No one will say a church should discipline an abused wife for divorcing her abusive husband, when her abusive husband pointed a loaded gun at her. Her life was literally at stake and she very well could have died right there that day at the hand of her abusive husband. This is beyond abuse and is getting into attempted murder territory. I will add that even neo-Calvinists, which many of us often disagree with, will not take this insane stance. Only CEFC and Steve Estes out of the whole world has this stance. If that’s the case then either CEFC is the only true church of Jesus left on earth, or CEFC is becoming a cult. Which one do you think it is?

I ask CEFC once again. Are we not your brothers in Christ? Are those in EFCA not your brothers in Christ? Why do you feel that you alone holds the truth of Jesus? Do you really think that out of the whole world and over the past 2000 years, your church CEFC alone is following Jesus correctly? Or maybe, just maybe, is CEFC slowly becoming an authoritarian cult like the Jehovah’s Witness?

    • Sometimes when people are angry they say unkind things. But try not to let that muddy the waters for you as to what is the truth and what is a lie. The tactic seems to have been all along, and seems it still is from your comment, “discredit the person, so there is no way any of us can actually know what is true and what is a lie.” Their intent from the start of this excommunication has been to cause confusion by making people wonder if things being said were true. But when we asked what the lies were, we and others were met with either silence or some kind of statement that doesn’t answer the question of what is being said is true??? Instead they said things like “you are not being trusting of your elders” or “opposing your authority is prideful and arrogant”. Or you should not repeat these things or you will be gossiping. But never and answer to the question…”WHAT is not true?”

The end of John 8:44 says that the devil is ” a liar and the father of lies.” Then 1 Corinthians 14:33 says , “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” It is clear the the congregation of CEFC has been in turmoil since the onset of this injustice. Injustice first and foremost of NOT disciplining Brock Estes in the first place for what 1 Corinthians 5:11 clearly did to deserve to be put away from the body. But instead they did what God warns not to do in James 2 and in 1 Timothy 5:19-21 and that is show favoritism. First CEFC showed it to Brock by diverting the attention from his unrepentant behaviors to those of his ex wifes instead. And then they, the entire church, continued on with that same favoritism by refusing to corporately stand up against their pastor and elders in the face of their injustices.

Just try and set aside your feelings of anger toward the blogger and anonymous people being unkind, as well as your devotion to the kind people of your church and ask God to reveal to you all truth. I think that’s the best way to separate truth from lies.

  8. First and foremost I challenge XJN to look into the eyes of the wounded and shunned and then have the audacity to say the story is not true! Unless your sister, daughter, mother or loved one was hurt you can never even begin to comprehend the pain these dear people endured.
Second, I challenge XJN to research Calvinism and understand it is the theology/philosophy of John Calvin. Following Calvinism has assisted in creating this mess. Perhaps we should follow Jesus instead of a flawed human beings perception of God’s word.
Third, how is it possible if you attend EFREE that you are reading this blog? It was my understanding….. per your leaders instruction that church members should not read or look at it. Agree with Eagle in that it is good to see these kind of comments because it proves how some follow so blindly. The leaders of EFREE are good people and our loved by God. They have done good in many ways. However, they have misinterpreted scripture and made a mistake which left a huge bleeding hole in the hearts of the souls they were suppose to be loving. God gives us discernment, wisdom and common sense and we need use that to honor Him. Prayers lifted that we search and find the truth and then stand strong in the truth.

  9. XJN,
It is not for people like you that this blog exists. It is for many of the people who maybe sitting aside you on a given Sunday morning who are not only open to hear both sides of a story but want to. It has caused them to investigate both sides outside of this blog and have left CEFC to move onto a healthier place. Yes, some particulars may not be accurate here. I have found that occasionally too.. But the very ones that are extremely accurate as pertaining to this story are the ones posted a year ago that spell out clearly how a young woman was expelled from among you because your church “values the sanctity of marriage”. That is NOT the issue. I don’t know anyone who follows Christ and reads the Bible regularly who does NOT value the marriage institution of marriage God set forth. And I encourage you to pray for God to show you all truth, be open to it and then start reading this blog again from the beginning and reach out to real people who have left who were privy to what happened from the start.

The issue at hand, what this is all REALLY about, which you failed to mention in your list of grievances above, is the fact that Brock’s Estes was protected, guarded, and not held accountable before the congregation, as he should have been from the beginning for: breaking the law, abusing his wife, and so poorly regarding his marriage. This not surprising, since right after she left and served him divorce papers he took the advice of his, fathers, uncles and elders to NOT pursue his wife (this from the words of Brocks mother). He refused to reach out in love to her, admitted freely he wanted a divorce early on (pre excommunication) to many, including his father, Matt Carter and myself. Said he just wanted to “move on”. He confessed freely he no longer wanted to be married to her, could not say he loved her when asked, took only hours after the excommunication service to call her lawyer so he could sign the papers, and wasted no time going public with his “girlfriend” as soon as the divorce was legal.
The only reason Brock and the leaders of this church were not arrested on criminal charges was for the grace and forgiving spirit of his ex wife! Those are just “some”of the FACTS surrounding this story.

And by the way, since so many from CEFC read this regularly, thanks for being one of the brave ones from the church to finally comment. Maybe, just maybe, this is actually part of how God is actually leading you to be “smarter” in these matters and to lead you to truth.

Interesting, after reading this quote… I thought of what has happened at CEFC in regards to this cover up of events from early on:
Mr. Weigant writes, “The basic idea is an easy one to grasp: believe the hype, not the facts. Repeat a falsehood enough times, and a whole bunch of people start to believe it. Once they do, proving it wrong using facts just doesn’t seem to work.”

  10. Authority and submission goes both ways. CEFC has no problem disciplining its members however it wrongs. And this includes disciplining a poor woman who was seriously abused by her husband (who was the pastor’s son). But now when its mother organization, EFCA, wants to question and discipline CEFC they refused to be questioned and disciplined. In fact CEFC wants to leave EFCA.

Explain this to me CEFC. If even members cannot just up and leave a church, how can a whole church (CEFC) just up and leave its mother church organization (EFCA)? EFCA say their discipline for their members is out of love. If so why don’t CEFC also accept the loving discipline from EFCA? Hypocrites!

Instead CEFC say they are the victims. That they are being persecuted for “righteousness” and “standing up for the true of Jesus”. They deceived themselves and is blinded by their own pride.

I feel pain inside my heart for reading these kind of stories. That a church can look the bible in the face and yet not see the truth. So they lost their First Love for Jesus and First Love for their neighbours. And they only wants to discipline others but refused to be disciplined.

Listen CEFC.

When Jesus spoke the following, did he spoke to all of us outside? Or did he spoke to CEFC? You decide.

“These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.” (Matthew 15:8-9)

  11. When I read XJN’s second comment, that is exactly what I mean. Always accusing that lies are being propagated but never willing to say what they are when asked to explain. Instead, this is what they do. They set themselves up as the Holy ones acting Godly. As if they are above discussing this. Then they assault the character of the person who asks them to give an intelligent response. Bill is bitter because he asks you to explain yourself? Bill doesn’t read his Bible regularly and probably isn’t in a good church because he asked you to spell out what the lies are? Bill need to pray? Serve the church and not take the Cross of Jesus lightly?

May God continue to be relentless in his pursuit of those in CEFC.

  12. EXACTLY EAGLE!! Could it get any more blatantly obvious? Years later and they are still pulling the same garbage thinking people buy it.
This is sooooo CEFC! So predictable.
Commenting, “Perhaps the real story is BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH…”
And then followed up with “…if you were at the meeting you would know things you don’t know now”.
Gimme a break. Does this person not realize that some people commenting here were at that meeting? That such explicit notes were taken at that meeting and typed up in such detail we could post on here everything said that night and who said what and with what tone. It’s the idea that “if you only knew the real story…”…but alas… never following up with the real story.

The real story is that the Dec meeting was filled with lies. Some of omission and some outright. No mention of Brocks behavior at all at that meeting. And although it continued to pull the wool over the eyes of some, it culminated with even more leaving CEFC and a very telling, disgraceful, unapologetic letter to Hurit. So who really cares what they said at the meeting? So awful and telling was that letter that it angered EFCA and several elders. Deceptive! Prideful! The real story is that Steve Estes, this person commenting on your blog, and a bunch more, hold on, white knuckled, in their deep voices, to their “We believe she did not have grounds for divorce”. On the road to Damascus they have allowed their hearts to be hardened to all other truth and now they cant see the forest for the trees: Brock not wanting a divorce instead of reconciliation, not being disciplined, loaded guns, criminal actions, EFCA’s disappointment in the leadership and trying to correct them, solid believers inside and outside of the church giving facts surrounding this story and trying to persuade them to repent, and…the testimony of Brock which confesses freely to multiple people that everything in his ex wife’s letter about him is true!!

If it wasn’t for the discernment of all those brothers and sisters who have left this church I would have thought I was going insane actually seeing such things unfold in a church claiming Jesus Christ in America in this century. So sad they have fallen away from their one true love. I cant imagine the Holy Spirit will content with this much longer.

  16. The thing to understand here is that it is much more than just CEFC that is run, and corrupted by, the Stoltzfus clan. Elverson is their fiefdom. They run the borough council, and own most of the land that is still available for development. Once they have wrung the last cent out of a property they do little to maintain it, to the detriment of those who have done business with them.

  17. Not only do they not maintain their property, but they have defrauded those who have bought in their development. Merle will write a letter about the birth of Christ in the borough news paper and yet cheat people by building poorly constructed homes.

The Stolzltfus are not well thought of in Elverson. The Church is considered a joke in the community and Steve Estes is considered a fraud.
