Evangelicals and Art: Merrily We Roll Along

Merrily We Roll Along is probably the most underrated musical that Stephen Sondheim wrote. It came out on Broadway in 1981 and ran for 16 performances. The musical is about a man named Franklin Shepherd who is a well known Broadway composer who abandons his friends and song writing career to produce Hollywood movies. This musical is about friendships, growing up and old, abandonment, and life. Some of Sondheim’s best known songs are in this musical. If you are pressed for time I would listen to Bernadette Peters “Not a Day Goes By” or “Our Time.” Have a good weekend!
