Some Thoughts on the Latest Post at SGM Survivors, and a Note that Other Blogs, Including The Wondering Eagle will Help Also

This is a quick post that is a response to the most recent post at SGM Survivors. This blog will always welcome posts and stories related to Sovereign Grace or former SGM churches. This blog was created out of an incident from Eric Simmons Redeemer Arlington. If you want to publish anything you are free to, plus I am certain that The Wartburg Watch or Thou Art the Man would also do so as well.

“One thorn of experience is worth a whole wilderness of warning.”

James Russell Lowell

“History is a vast early warning system.”

Norman Cousins

I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. 18 For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. 19 Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I rejoice because of you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.

Romans 16:17-27 NIV

The other day I read the latest post at SGM Survivors and there are a number of things I wanted to remind the Christian community. SGM Survivors has served its purpose in a lot of ways. However it also had its flaws in many ways which I will not dive into here. That said I want to remind the community there that you guys also have The Wartburg Watch which will write about Sovereign Grace. Plus this blog also exists and will be writing about Sovereign Grace as well. In the near future I hope to write about the following:

  1. Phil Johnson from John MacArthur’s Grace to You dismissing the allegations against CJ Mahaney.
  2. An overview of ECFA (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability). I want to look at ECFA in the light of Mars Hill Seattle, Gospel for Asia and Sovereign Grace. I am particularly interested in a relationship (if it exists) between Dan Busby and CJ Mahaney.

Having said that there are a number of articles already here at The Wondering Eagle about Sovereign Grace Fairfax, Covenant Life Church, and Mark Mitchell. Someone from Covenant Life reached out to me and asked me to listen to PJ Smyth. I attended, wrote about him and Advance and still plan to write more. Actually to be open this blog was the only one who wrote about PJ and did a comprehensive biography on him. What I have written about PJ Smyth is some of the most read articles at this blog. If you Google PJ Smyth my articles pop up at the first page.

One other point I would like to make is that this blog was the result of an incident from a former Sovereign Grace Church in the DC area known as Redeemer Arlington. Redeemer Arlington is led by Eric Simmons and broke away from SGM, but I believe it still has the SGM DNA in its system. I plan to write another article in the near future but so far I have written 73 articles about Redeemer Arlington. The last articles I wrote were an overview of its history and why it broke away from SGM. In the future I continue to plan to write about and cover what happens to Redeemer Arlington. I have had someone who contacted me to ask some questions about some of what I have written. I plan to write extensively about Redeemer Arlington going forward.

If you are not aware of the incident what basically happened is that Jordan Kauflin (Bob Kaulfin’s son) was discipling an Air Force Captain who graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2005, and helped donate marrow to save a young girl in Portland not long ago. He actually organized a bone marrow drive at Bolling Air Force Base in 2012. Andrew White which is the pseudo was also trying to get me involved in Redeemer Arlington. In the course of time he made a false accusation and used his rank as an Air Force Captain to pull it off. It sent me into the darkest season of my life. In the process the person that Jordan Kaulfin discipled also taught me why rape and sexual assault are a serious issue in the United States military. That incident which was never resolved is what drives this blog. Its what keeps me up to 2:00 a.m. to research and write this blog.

Writing about Sovereign Grace or former SGM Churches at The Wondering Eagle

Here is what I am going to lay on the table for those of you who told your stories at SGM Survivors. If you want me to re-run any of your stories and tag them so that they follow the church or minister involved I will gladly do that and help you out. If news is breaking about Sovereign Grace I will be happy to write about it. However I will also offer this, if any of you formerly from SGM want to write a post and publish it here I will gladly give you the platform. I am not about control here and I am more than okay with you telling your story and getting this information out there. I view CJ Mahaney as a wolf, a spiritual predator and I believe he would want nothing more than to have SGM Survivors go away. If Kris is not going to publish stories I will be happy to give you or others the platform to do so. The only thing I ask you to consider is that this blog is also diverse. I am writing a lot about the Evangelical Free Church of America, I hope to write quite a bit about Acts 29. And I also plan to write a bit about atheism and faith cresses and doubt. This blog is busy and is like a full time job. I plan to get some help in the future but if any of you guys want to write about SGM or tell a story I will give you the platform. Plus its not just with me, I know Dee Parsons over at The Wartburg Watch, or Todd Wilhelm over at Thou Art the Man would do the same thing. This is not a competition we all have strengths and weaknesses. Dee Parsons and Todd Wilhelm do a great job also. That said, I think the one difference between me and some of the others is that I like to get into the history of the denomination or movement and poke around deeper. That is just the influence of my grad level history.

Its important to remember that I am a one man show and I do this blog while caught up in the Washington, D.C. rat race. I just want to get a quick and brief post launched to get it known that if you guys need to continue get information out about a corrupt and deviant “ministry” I will happily give you a platform. Just email me at If you live in the DC area I would be happy to meet with you. Thanks guys, and know that I love you!

  1. I imagine that Guy & Kris may feel that they’ve accomplished what needed to be accomplished, and that they’ve allowed SGM far too much “space” in their life recently & that they need to move on eventually. Good for them; we should all be genuinely happy for them.

It might be best if someone takes the baton, so to speak. Keeping an archival copy of the site is a good thing, but perhaps ceding the site’s management to another trusted & interested party who would take on the cost & time of maintaining it would also be an even better thing. But it’s theirs to do with what they want, but it would be a shame if it went away altogether.
