Evangelicals and Art: Whistle Down the Wind

Whistle Down the Wind is what I am going to throw up this weekend. This musical is from Andrew Lloyd Webber and not as well known as Phantom of the Opera, Evita, or Sunset Boulevard. (In time I will feature Sunset Boulevard, Evita, Phantom) The lyrics for Whistle are by Jim Steinman of Meatloaf. Whistle Down the Wind never really took off in the United States. It never seemed to get beyond Washington, D.C. The musical is about an escaped killer who is mistaken to be Jesus Christ and is hidden by a group of children. It is set in Louisiana in 1959. There are several catchy tunes, I found three differing variations of “A Kiss is a Terrible Thing to Waste.” The other song “No Matter What” became one of the top pop songs.
